That is a tach signal, and not a speed signal? And do you know what color it is? If that's the right one, I'd be VERY happy!

Edit: My wiring shows that pin 17 is "speed sense" and is pink/green. So to me, that's for vehicle speed, and not the tach.

It probably heads over to the DLC2 connector or something, because it isn't heading to any other systems in any of the wiring diagrams which is where I initially checked. Every other ECU, etc. uses the CAN-BUS to get the tach signal, but as I said there is an output dedicated to it on the ECU. It's not shown in any wiring diagrams, but it is mentioned in the RM.

Nice of them to do that.

Jeff, you seem to know your $hit! My wiring charts show I can grab a tach signal from the large 54 pin connector on the passenger side, rear of the engine. Looks like pin 54, 53, 52, & 51 (white, black/yellow, black/red, black/blue). These are larger diameter than most wires on the harness, so can you confirm I can grab a tach signal from one of these? Or even is you can be more specific on which ECU you are referring to, and wire color. I don't have the wiring schematics for the car yet. Thanks!

54 = Port Injector No.1, White
53 = Port Injector No.2, Black/Yellow
52 = Port Injector No.3, Black/Red
51 = Port Injector No.4, Black/Blue

I don't think trying to get some sort of tach signal from the injectors is going to work for you, especially on a D4-S system when they aren't on during all conditions, and on top of that you have duration, etc. to deal with. There is no tach signal to be found on those wires.

Thanks again for your response Jeff. I seem to be striking out on this! Any suggestions on a good tach signal under the hood?

I do apologize for questioning you on the tach signal inside the car. I'm use to all the Toyotas I've owned that have tach inside the car. This Subaru thing is new to me.

I actually need the tach for two things: remote start and push button start. I've got everything installed (minus the push button trim paint). Just need to get a tach signal and program it.

I purchased the Advanced Keys module a few years back and installed it in my Toyota. Obviously I'm not going to sell the car with the module installed! I got a steal of a deal, the push button start AND the proximity module for $150 shipped.

can you link the part number or anything for what you got. would be nice to find a push button start... although I guess I could find a way to use the BRZ one im sure. Thats one thing I wish was an option for the FR-s

I have the AK-104B, which is both modules together. Or if you scroll down, you can purchase the modules separately. The button used should be the same as the OEM button.

I don't think swapping the BRZ push button in will be easy. The OEM setup requires a new steering column for the lock out, as well as a different ECU for the key/transponder. I think aftermarket is going to be the cheapest route!

Hows the install going? Was it tricky? I was planning on buying the AK-104B off of a friend who never used it. =)

EDIT: Follow up question, how did you deal with the steering column lock? Did you manually place a key into the key hole to forgo the steering column lock, or is it actually an electrical switch?

I'm installing the Defi Advance ZD but had trouble trying to locate the wiring diagram to tap the speed and rpm. So basically it's not functional at all except readings on the oil n water temperature and oil pressure. Anyone figured it out yet?
