The FR-S was never intended to be a "powerful" car.... It accomplishes its design goal EXTREMELY well.....its all about "feel"....the response of the engine, the speed and accuracy of the steering and shifter..... Sure in a "drag" race the GTI could "beat" it...but who cares.....I didn't buy it to drive in straight lines.....its how it feels in the turns that makes me smile!!!! The motortrend handling shootout describes the GTI perfectly....great car at 8/10ths....past that...its no fun....

I agree 100% Im waiting on TRD version or STi version which ever I like better, I can wait

I understand this is the one of the strongest selling point of the car, and definitely agree with you 1000%. BUT, I live in Florida, not a single hill and limited to none curvy roads, just long straight line "boring" roads.

I LOVE the handling on this car, no matter if it is on a straight road. The driving experience as a whole is simply amazing. I point this out only becasue I have heard other people shied away from the car because there are no "curvy roads" where to drive it. It doesn't matter. The car is pure joy to drive curvy, straight, upside down, sideways etc etc.. type of road.

Yea, every car I've ever owned (with one exception) eventually developed rattles and "strange" noises that you couldn't quite tell where they were coming from. Of course that could be because in nearly all of them "eventually" is defined as "in the first 120K miles or so".

Only one that never did? My MK1 MR2. It had 150K+ miles on it, and never developed any strange noises I couldn't locate and eliminate.

Dude, This car is like golf. The only person you are competing against is yourself. Just play the game and improve. You will improve or quit. Simple.

This is going to be this cars biggest downfall to the majority of the public who aren't enthusiast drivers. My 2000 accord was faster then the frs and I could only sell it for 4000, but it's nowhere near as fun.

Thank GOD I am not part of the majority of the public! HAHAHAHA! I agree entirely that this car is for the enthusiast driver. I traded an eclipse that was faster in a straight line. Don't regret it for a second! Like you said about your Accord, the Eclipse too was nowhere near as fun.

So, just curious about the OP...

Why exactly would a non-ft86 owner, who has decided he doesn't like the car, waste the time and effort to post on a pro-FT86 board to simply state he doesn't like it?

Actually seems like he's got a case of "sour grapes" to me.

so my next target was the FRS/BRZ so after 3 years following this car and reading so many great reviews I finally got to test drive an FRS.

sadly it was an automatic but at least I got to compare the transmission to my DSG on the GTI.

first thing was that the seats are great! maybe better than my GTI's (autobahn package) and that's a lot to say.
the engine doesn't sound ANYTHING like the typical boxer engine in my WRX which i think is sad but I'm sure it's due to the equal length headers.

The suspension is very nice, firm but not harsh which feels just like the 370Z. The steering wheel response is great, just like that on the 370z.

The tires on that car are meant to slide! you can easily spin the tires even without trying so I'm sure this car would be a lot of fun when drifting around the track.

The tranmission is surprisingly similar to the DSG on my GTI, for a few momments there I forgot I wasn't driving my car so that's plus.
I still think that buying this car with an auto tranny is a SIN and you should be ashamed for buying such car.

now the bad part is that the car has NO BALLS what so ever, my completely stock Integra GSR felt faster than that car.
I wasn't expecting any power out of the FRS but I wasn't expecting it
to feel that underwhelming.

conclusion for me is that I'm keeping my GTI. I'm sure the FRS is a great track car but I don't think you'll get much fun out on the real world without driving wrecklessly (fast turns and stuff).

Eventhough the GTI and this car have the same power the GTI feels 10X faster (thanks to the torque given by the turbo).
I've learn that I prefer a car that feel faster than one that IS faster but feels slower.

For the money of a brand new FRS I would recommend getting a used 370Z ANY DAY there is nothing this car does better than the nissan specially at the track and the 370z does come with balls.

So this is my totally subjective opinion and I honestly don't care if anyone agrees or not. I just thought it would be nice review based on my experience living with all the other cars that in some way or another relate to this car.
Heeey i got just the solution. I was doing a lot of research online and discovered that if you dont buy the car, you wont have to worry about anything regarding the 86 anymore!!! And secondly if you refrain from posting or delete your account you may prevent yourself from being flamed on the daily! I hear honda tech forums are terrific if you want to boast about your gsr! Godspeed

Might be, might not be. He posted decent amount before this car came out.

It just might be his final word of good bye before leaving here.

IDK

I don't mind the review. Posting your final opinion once and moving on is great. It's the handful of members who don't like it, won't buy it, and keep posting the same complaints over and over that boggles my mind it. I personally think the 370z is a poor drivers car once you get past numbers but I wouldn't make 100 posts about that on a Nissan board.
