Ultimately this is going to prevent the fellas with the horsepower hard ons from buying this car and, while they move on to something with 100 more HP and 1000lbs heavier, we remain a somewhat more exclusive group. Much like the enthusiast Miata owners. The same group of guys don't give a Miata a second glance because it doesn't even have 200hp. The enthusiast owners love the Miata for what it was built to do in much the same way that we love the twins.

It's the same counter argument I always hear (weight). Maybe it's the American muscle attitude but 1000lbs come on. Toyota could have plonked an ej turbo in, for a cheaper cost than the d4s fa20 and your 100 hp would have cost next to no extra weight.

Ok I get the point with the miatas but they are by design a niche car, like a Lotus or a Catterham they will only ever sell x per year. This chassis could compete with the big boys in performance and sales with the right lump in it.

The FR-S was designed to fit into that niche while still capable of running with the bigger boys. The BRZ itself trailed only a few seconds behind a mustang that had A LOT more horsepower on a course.

I remember when people were waiting at the docks for SR20DET silvia front end to swap over their 240sx's. Guess what the FR-S has almost the same speed #'s as S13 SR20DET. Was that a slow car? Plus this has a much stiffer chassis and probably better all around construction.

Honestly I wish the FR-S had a little less HP with more mid-torque, would have helped with insurance rates (why didn't they rate it 199 hp?)

I still love the car and have just put down a deposit for a base MT (any color that comes up available). I just drove an MT that a service manager bought and let me borrow for a few hours.

Is it fun to drive? Yes.

Is it fast? It's not slow. It's not as fast as more serious sports cars out there, but it also is lighter and handles better than those.

Could it use more power? Yes. I think 250 hp and 250 torque would be a sweet spot for this car. It would also be more of a handful.

Look, if you buy this car, will you be dusting Mustang GT's in the 1/4 mile at a drag strip? Nope. Will you be able to carve corners on curvy roads, grinning from ear to ear like a lunatic? Yep.

Ya, I mean, i think the 86 is a perfect car. Its balanced in every sense, power, handling, price, gas mileage, ect.

There are cars that excel greater than the 86 in each of these areas but they lack in the others.

If you want the best all around car i think the 86 is perfect.


Plus, you can always add power later, isn't that the fun part? lol.

This car is suppose to be known for its handling not its power. This car has one of the best handling i ever felt and i'm happy with that. If anyone really want more power then you can always buy a turbo for the car or wait until the STI version comes out for the BRZ.
