Here is why Scion may be a good idea:

1. It will likely be cheaper out the door!

2. Scion is more focused on tuning and aftermarket parts. Last time I checked, this is good for a performance car. This may be equal given that Toyota has TRD...

3. The styling can be more extreme, like the concept, if the FT-86 is branded as a Scion without having to worry if it fits in with the rest of the Toyota brand. Scion can make any image they want since they are a newer company. (Side Note: I don’t know about you guys, but I think the FT-86 II Concept is the best looking, reasonable priced, show car I’ve seen in ages. It looks like a $100,000+ exotic to my eyes.)

4. Scion needs defibrillators set on maximum power right now. This car would put the Scion brand on the map while still drawing people to the Toyota brand as well.

Think about it before hatin' to much...

(Gets behind riot shield after yelling comments to enraged crowd. Awaiting rocks and glass bottles…)

And Toyota, please make this car useable for a 6’6” person. Long seat tracks (like VW), long telescoping steering wheel with tilt (like VW), and seats that can be lowered to floor level.
Bucket seats or other different racing car seats??

That's what we've been discussing in the other thread:

@6ft giant: My close friend is actually 6foot 6 inches as well, and he fit inside his AE86 much better than he did his 240sx, so don't worry too much.

Older cars don't have as much pillar reinforcements and such, so if the exterior dimensions are a similar size it's bound to be more cramped inside than an AE86.

Another reason why I hope its not a Scion is the no haggling price! If the sticker says 23,995 that's what you're going to pay! Screw that!

lol thats so true I'm 5'10" with my old 240sx I cant use a helmet on a stock seats i need to recline it a little and thats takes off my perfect driving position.

Just like what I say before I'm in it for the driving experience not for the name, If a hater laughed at me for having a scion I ask him to meet me on willow spring prove that his car & skills is worthy to make fun of other peoples car. Just like my friends S2000 got beaten by a 84 SR5 3x older than his car lol

If you're able to haggle $3000-$4000 off the MSRP of a brand new Toyota priced at ~$27,000, then I might believe in miracles.

I got my 05 Tacoma at $200 above invoice. It's a 4dr double cab, automatic, V6, 4WD, Off Road Package and the Tow Package. The price with tax, DMV fees came out to 32K. Since I only applied for a 30K loan I didn't plan to go over that amount.

You gotta know what you are doing (know what the invoice price is for the car and the packages), stand your ground and know when to walk away. I went directly to LA since none of the San Diego dealerships didn't have the exact one I wanted.

I finally ended up closing the deal at Carson Toyota and signed the check for 28K OTD. I ended up talking to the Fleet Sales manager only b/c I didn't want to deal with the salesman anymore.

Fair enough, you obviously know how to bargain down a vehicle much better then I do.

But surely Scion will have a little bit of room to negotiate though maybe not the same as Toyota. I personally don't know anyone who has bought a new Scion so I don't know how much give they have, I do however see where you're coming from and you're point in your previous post.

I going to go out on a limb and say I still believe the Scion can still be attained at a lower price then the Toyota with similar haggling (Scion may only give up a grand or two), am I not correct?

Other company that offered no haggle pricing: Saturn.

All this does is sets a middle ground price. Other way balances the price between what a good negotiator like RRnold pays, and what some gullible fool pays.

I don't see this as a plus.

Dealers get paid after they haggle you into paying more. Every single dollar you pay above price they paid for the vehicle (or obligated to pay to the factory) is "hard earned' by their definition. When I was shopping for my 2008 double cab tacoma I had a lot of difficulty negotiating price that was acceptable to me. And that is really important to keep in mind. If you are not getting a loan from the dealer then you are far better off because they do not have you cornered. If you walk into dealership and agree to pay what they told you then you are probably overpaying. Out the door price should ALWAYS be negotiated. Tax, fees, tags etc etc etc. can and do add up to several thousand dollars. And that is several thousand dollars too many. Another thing to always keep in mind is that just because dealer upgrades exist does not mean that you should be getting them. For example for my tacoma (if I was to buy new) there are like 20,000 dollars worth of optional add ons. Things like 3000 dollar stereo or 1000 dollar navigation system or flashy tail lights etc.

In most cases (not all) it is often cheaper to install aftermarket products on your car. Things like stereo. Things like navigation. Things like aftermarket tail lights and headlights. Things like upgraded suspension.

I am no financial adviser but having bought cars in the past I can provide a couple of useful comments.

#1 It is better to have your own funds when going to a dealeship.
#2 If you are going to a dealer with no funds then it pays to have a good credit history. History that reflects a long term commitment to pay bills on time and never late. Creditors look at that first... not just your credit score.
#3 0% APR is only for people with excellent credit so do not get scammed into getting a fake loan and then be slapped with 23% apr on the vehicle.
#4 do your research and know the car better than dealer. 99% of the time they improvise on the spot and do not respond well when cornered. I had one try and explain me how to use a 4 wheel drive by hitting all the wrong buttons.
#5 do not agree to pay more than you can afford. have a clear amount in mind before you go and never stray from it. Do not get scammed into lower car payments for a 72 month loan because in the end you will go way over your budget by paying more.
#6 in most cases you will be required to get a full insurance coverage which is often more than for an older car. Keep that in mind.

And for those reason's we want a Toyota FT-86, not a Scion.

If it is a Scion, I will be extremely disappointed if Toyota doesn't change their NASCAR image to that of the FT-86. Because that would show me that Toyota isn't putting their whole heart into this effort. If this is the car they want it to be, they need to go all out. And frankly Scion has never been about "All-Out". That died with the Supra, Celica and MR2.
Anytime I see TRD it's on a pickup truck so that's nothing to write home about. And I can't believe you mentioned Nascar as a credible racing source. This isn't a muscle car in the making this is a corner carver type sport vehicle.

Scion's whole deal is that "the price you see is the price you pay", it says on their website. I'm sure you can try to haggle but will probably be shot down... You start with the base price and add what you want from there

you must not be familiar with how capable those TRD trucks are off road, even when stock.
