I don't mind that they have the concept in NY. People seem to forget that they haven't hown the concept in the US yet. this is why the internet sucks sometimes. So many people bitching and moaning to "just produce it already" when in truth the car has been in development for a scant three years so far, and 10 years ago, you (Stateside guys) probably would not have even known the concept existed until it was shown in the US.

Re: it being a scion. Did anybody notice that this concludes todays edition of rehashed rumors?

p.s. Toyota, if you are listening, and in case you are getting any ideas, don't you fucking dare.

Daihatsu >>>> Scion.

Better cars, and racing credentials to go with it.

Cars such as the Charade G11R, G100 Charade GTti (1L, 3cyl Turbo), G201 Charade Detomaso, YRV Turbo, Cuore Avanzato and the Copen convertible.

The Charades have a fair bit of Rally wins to go with them, and IIRC a Group N Australian Rlly Championship. Once of the more recent hot hatches they produced was the Boon/Storia X4

Street Version
Quote:
The base car started with a derivative of the 660cc JB-DET engine, and is a 4-cylinder Twin-Cam DOHC DVVT Fuel-Injected Intercooled Turbo-Charged engine. These engines were shipped to DRS (Daihatsu Racing Services - Think of them as TRD), where the cylinder capacity was enlarged to 713cc, and forged internals added. The 713cc engine size was specifically engineered to enable the car to race in the 1.0 litre class, whereby turbo-charged cars engine size are given a mandatory multiple of x1.4 (to ensure a level playing field against n/a cars). Given the cylinder size of 713cc, a x1.4 multiple means that the cars effective engine size is 998.2cc, thereby being as close to the 1.0 litre limit as possible.

The 713cc engine runs an IHI RHF4B VF36 Ball Bearing Turbo with a Titanium Shaft and Turbine Wheel. Intercooler water spray is also fitted to help lower intake temperature. Rumour is that the engines were slightly de-tuned for sale by Daihatsu, and left the showroom running 18psi (1.24bar), producing 120ps. However, an adjustable actuator was fitted as standard, allowing the boost to be increased to around 24psi with no additional modifications required. A performance upgrade was also available directly from Daihatsu when ordering, which apparently produced 200ps!

The car has a 5-speed close ratio gearbox, clutch-type front & rear differential and permanent four-wheel drive. The overall weight of the car is approximately 820kgs, so the car has an effective power-to-weight ratio of 146ps per tonne.(15lbs/hp stock, 9lbs/hp performance upgrade)

There's a reason we have Toyota Racing Development, not Scion.

There's a reason Toyota's NASCAR race vehicle is a CAMRY, and NOT the tC or a SCION. (Yes I know it's not a real Camry)

And for those reason's we want a Toyota FT-86, not a Scion.

If it is a Scion, I will be extremely disappointed if Toyota doesn't change their NASCAR image to that of the FT-86. Because that would show me that Toyota isn't putting their whole heart into this effort. If this is the car they want it to be, they need to go all out. And frankly Scion has never been about "All-Out". That died with the Supra, Celica and MR2.

also, all i can say is that potential owners and especially ethusiast will be extremely happy with the final product.

Can I just say that you guys are doing a huge injustice to this car and the Toyota brand, and whoever came up and are sticking by that decision, suck balls.

Those same asses that get the chuckles are the same ones who have made scion the shining beacon of automotive excellence that it is today (if you can't tell, that last sentence was sarcasm). Witness where it has led.

For the marketing geniuses, that claim to know what the fuck they are talking about, ask them why the new xB, stopped selling as well as it used to after "listening to what their customers wanted". yeah fucking right.

I'm out.

IF it wont be squared off, i will be happy, i just hope we all get the same version as the world.... or little to no differences other than the badge.

I will go to the auto show to personally see this car. It only takes me 1 hour to go to the auto show by using the subway.

Honestly, this Car maybe be Scion's only saving Grace. New kids are going to go crazy about this, and all that. While I think Enthusiasts, will probably jump ship over to the sister company and get a Subaru version. Thought I get a feeling it's going to cost alot more..

Hmm, I think a good question here is WHO is cracking you up?

And I've said this before many many times, but I honestly don't care what its badged under, since in the end its the same damn company, and I'm going to be re-badging it in either case. (With a old school T-O-Y-O-T-A grill emblem to top it all off, haha)
Though I have to say the Yota enthusiast in me does really wish for this car to be branded and marketed as a Toyota over a Scion, but I've had this nagging feeling in the back of my head since this forum opened that it was going to be released as a Scion over here, so if it is, there literally will be no shock.

I have to admit the talks of it being "cheaper in quality" or "boxier", etc. because its a Scion instead of a Toyota IS a laughable. Very laughable. It'll be the same damn car everyone else gets, except with a different badge. We already know its being MP'd in Japan.

(Putting on Hazmat suit to avoid toxic hater venom.)

Here is why Scion may be a good idea:

1. It will likely be cheaper out the door!

2. Scion is more focused on tuning and aftermarket parts. Last time I checked, this is good for a performance car. This may be equal given that Toyota has TRD...

3. The styling can be more extreme, like the concept, if the FT-86 is branded as a Scion without having to worry if it fits in with the rest of the Toyota brand. Scion can make any image they want since they are a newer company. (Side Note: I don’t know about you guys, but I think the FT-86 II Concept is the best looking, reasonable priced, show car I’ve seen in ages. It looks like a $100,000+ exotic to my eyes.)

4. Scion needs defibrillators set on maximum power right now. This car would put the Scion brand on the map while still drawing people to the Toyota brand as well.

Think about it before hatin' to much...

(Gets behind riot shield after yelling comments to enraged crowd. Awaiting rocks and glass bottles…)

And Toyota, please make this car useable for a 6’6” person. Long seat tracks (like VW), long telescoping steering wheel with tilt (like VW), and seats that can be lowered to floor level.
