True, but autocross is a different matter. BTDT.

One can and will burn through a rear set in one day doing autocross (can't rotate, staggered setup).

Since he didn't mention "on the street" this is how one could kill a set without being either a menace or a moron. Imbeciles are somewhere in between.

(I will also point out that, technically, a moron is far more intelligent than an idiot. Also, the terms moron, imbecile, and idiot have been replaced with mild, moderate, severe, and profound retardation.)

If you are just wearing the "middle" you don't have the right air pressure.

Don't need to compare to the front tires since that is what wear bars are for.

You did get the rotate part right though.
How often do you rotate your tires?

Agreed track events and autocross can indeed do in tires in a day. Even then you have to push the car really REALLY hard to do it. But he is talking to a guy that has just discovered power sliding on the street and I don't think there is much autocross or track involved.

I do believe the proper term now in intellectually challenged.

Every year when I swap to my winters and at each oil change (about 6 times a year).

Wear is caused by friction.

Be aware that "power sliding" in the rain can turn into skidding in the rain in a hurry. This is when you get to meet Mr. Curb.

Hi

Haha just kidding but in all seriousness, he will wear out tires a lot faster while powersliding than regular driving. He did state that he doesn't want to buy new tires anytime soon.

From his description of "power sliding" I suspect his tires will last him a long time yet. He isn't sliding it around enough to create the heat which is the real tire killer.

Noob question for the OP as I have been too chicken to powerslide so far ever since I crashed my s15 into a mountain face in the rain

Can you describe the scenario that you're powersliding?
Are you going into a turn from a complete stop? If so, what gear, speed and throttle are you using? If not, what is the situation?

Thanks

Asking a person how to power slide is a bit like asking a person how to ride a bicycle.

If you're really interested, I suggest you take your car out on a empty parking lot (with no lamp poles) and give it a few whirls......

Back-in-the-day ...... when I started driving ...... driving any way, on any road, was always a controlled power slide ....... to a degree .......

Here in nor cal the places we would (they still do) auto cross are air force bases. The tie down pads and runways were built to stop WWII bombers. They eat tires like no tomorrow. In the scca we even did real racing at some making tracks going from tie down area and runways. We would eat several sets of slicks in a weekend.

This is how I have been doing it..

If a turn if coming up to an open road I always make sure i'm in 2nd gear and the rpms are high, never tried it from a dead stop cause 1st will cause the rpms to shoot way up. Just as I pass the turn I kinda let the car go "out" towards the end of the road and flick the steering wheel the other way, while giving it gas. Once the tail is out I quickly countsteer. If i'm not going too fast only the tail gets out, but if I leave the turn with high rpms the the whole car slides sideways with the tail.

Don't know if that help!
