Help....Chevron 94 or Shell V Power 91

Hi there, this is my first post and after waiting 1 year i finally pulled the trigger on a 2017 Toyota 86 special edition. I absolutely love the car and since I got it I have filled 2 tanks with Chevron 94 I live In BC and am fortunate to have that gas as an option. I have read various different opinions about what gas to use in these vehicles but I'm not getting very far with my results and all posts seem to be from 2012 or so. Owners manual states 93 octane but 91 can be used. I have noticed that my tailpipes have carbon build up and there isn't even a 1000kms on the car is this a negative side effect of the 94 octane or is this normal?? Also for the guys running shell V power 91 do you have carbon build up issues or any other issues at all?? I'm looking for everyone's general consensus on what gas has the best overal results regarding gas Mileage, performance and long term reliability.

Thanks everyone for your help with this,

Kevin

There was an independent test a couple years back. Shell 93 V power was the best gas then BP 93 in second. Are you unable to get 93 in BC from either company?

I go for a 50/50 mix of 91 and 94. Bingo instant 185 octane.

Pick whichever is the busiest and sells the most.
Although the different brands may use special additives the fuel itself is all pretty much the same. Most of the rest of it is marketing hype.

100% normal. That stuff shows up regardless of what gas you use. Clean it off if it bothers you.

Why not a little of both?

Me, I kind of do a "gasoline suicide." I mix some Regular, some Unleaded, a bit more Premium and just a hint of Diesel. Seems to work good!

I forgot to mention here in BC Canada our chevron supreme plus 94 is ethanol free. But I've heard very good things about the Shell 91 V power being also ethanol free. Just wondering if running 91 octane long term will degrade the life of the vehicle..

Read what it says in the manual. I believe, if memory serves, you're supposed to use 93, and 91 for short periods if 93 is not available. There's a page dedicated to fuel in the manual.
