And.. to StraightOuttaCanadaEh .... I think the sarge in "Stripes" said it best... "Lighten up, Francis..." but yeah, definitely go ahead and vote, write, and lobby against any and all things you perceive as unjust. Breaking an existing law involves consequences, and, should you choose to so so, you must accept those consequences. Getting worked up into a lather about it solves nothing, but does shorten your life expectancy.

I am sure this will make some people mad, but I'm sure it'll make some others pretty happy. Unfortunately, though, we will never know if I was going to be able to get away with it. I'll let someone else be the guinea pig.

I did take someone's advice (7 pages of quotes has become too long for me to sift through in order to find the source) in confronting the office of parking and transportation services at my school in hopes that they would let me off the hook, but they said they still have my information on file.

Honestly, looking back at it, I wish the conversation could have gone differently between the guy at the window and me, such as asking whether or not they could prove it was MY ticket, but the guy was a young student and he already had to go talk to his manager to see what the guidelines were for a mis-written ticket, so I didn't feel like being an ass. So I just paid, but I told him that a lot of people were telling me to not pay the ticket and that I'm being a "good Samaritan", but even so, they told me they had my info. I wish I had asked for proof, but they also did have a picture of my car taken upon giving me the ticket and like a few people on here have mentioned, not alot of people have my car. As far as I have seen, I'm the only blue BRZ on campus, so that's a risk on its own.

Anywho, if someone else gets a ticket in the near future at their school and the info is wrong, feel free to post on here and be the guinea pig to see if you can actually get away with it

Thank you, everyone, for your input! I guess I am just too much of a bitch to have anything bad go on my record lol

You mean they didn't call you a stand-up guy, forgive the ticket and treat you like a hero but instead treated you like crap, acted awkward and took your money? If only someone had predicted...

And...

The guy you dealt with (and probably the guy that wrote the ticket) were not some form of high priced Stormtrooper that were out to crucify the little guy but just another broke student doing a job so they can make money pay any tickets they may get?

Roop, I fail to see where he was treated like "crap"? Sounds like the guy behind the counter did what anybody would do when confronted by such a situation.

That's what we were all trying to say in the first place, but Moral Orals all said he would get treated like a King. In this world no good deed goes unpunished, especially these days.

Oh a couple may have implied that but it was not a "good deed" to pay it was simply the proper process. Not a "these days" thing really as this argument has probably been going on since Ugh told Oog he owed him thre mastodon pelts for throwing bones in the intestine pile and that was against the rules.
There are rules and there are penalties for breaking them and no matter how silly the rule may seem or how unfair the penalty may appear it does not make it OK to disregard either.

The manager treated you like crap for not cutting you a break when his employee couldn't even ticket you properly, was my implication.

In all seriousness, I didn't think I would have been treated like a king even if they had granted me a "get out of jail free" card. I went up to the window with the mentality that it may be worth a shot, even if it's a 1% chance that they will excuse my ticket. Worst case scenario, I am right back where I started, but only with more knowledge on whether or not I have to pay the ticket.

My mistake was not asking more questions on what information exactly they had of mine because while I do have a unique car, they can't solely rely on that and assume it's my ticket. It's not a matter of what you say, it's a matter of what you can prove. In the picture they took of my car, the flash of the camera blurred out the parking permit numbering and while it was written correctly surprisingly, I could have EASILY lied and said that I drove a blue Subaru Outback and they put the ticket on the wrong car or there was a tiny hurricane in the parking lot that blew someone else's ticket onto my car and I came to confront them about it. Either way, I should have asked how they can prove it was me and how can I expect them to mail me a notice to my house given I never provided any personal info upon purchasing the Summer parking permit that is currently posted on my windshield. In that sense, I am sorry to all of you.

I wished this had happened:

Guy: How can I help you?
Me: There was a parking ticket on my windshield and I'm not sure if it's mine. The license plate doesn't match.
Guy: Let me check... Do you drive a blue Subaru? (which he did ask, by the way)
Me: Yes.
Guy: Since the license plate doesn't match and there is no VIN provided, does the permit number match?
Me: I don't know, I don't remember it.
Guy: <shows me the picture taken of my car> Is this your car?
Me: I can't tell, I have modifications in the rear of the car and that's only a picture of the front and no license plate on the front to say it's mine. I've seen another blue one just like mine driving around. Can you look up the permit number and see who it belongs to?
Guy: No information was provided upon purchasing the permit, just a card number.
Me: I used someone else's card to pay. Can you send me a corrected ticket to my address?
Guy: No address was provided upon purchase.
Me: So how do you know it's my ticket?
Guy: The only way to know is with your parking permit number. If that matches, it's yours. Can you go check?
Me: Sure. I'll be right back.

<never come back>
