Ticket for parking infront of my own driveway

Where: NJ, Bergen County
What: 39:4-138D Improper parking infront of driveway
Fine: $54

I scheduled a court date, but is it worth going to, I'll have to leave work early. It just seems fuckin stupid that I can't park in front of my own driveway, my neighbor got one too. my family has been parking there with no issue for 14 years and now suddenly, wtf.

The wording of the law seems to work against me completely, but does anyone know if parking tickets are like moving violations? If the officer doesn't show up, etc etc

Any tips? Just pay it? Fight it?

Considering you have to take a half a day from work plus the court charges for fighting the ticket I would just pay the ticket. You end up losing more money fighting the ticket and you are more than likely to lose.

The fact that you're asking us if it's worth it should tell you right away that it isn't worth it.

I hate that Fukn rule. It should ONLY apply if the homeowner is the one making the complaint.

At my house if I follow the "law" I cant park at all.
There is the neighbors driveway, then 10 feet is my driveway.
The "law" states that you cannot park within 5 feet of a driveway, so theoretically no-one can park in that space between the driveways.
Other side of my driveway ~20 feet and there is a stop sign, so since you cant park within ?? (cant remember) feet from a stop sign and cant park within 5 feet of my driveway measn I CANT PARK AT ALL.

I just ignore that crap and have never gotten a ticket.

Then I have neighbors on each side of me that complain if I PARK ACROSS THE STREET FROM THEIR DRIVEWAY.
They are both elderly and both have big trucks and complain that "they have trouble maneuvering to get in & out of their garage".
I alomst yelled at them last time "If you cant drive a damn giant truck, BUY A SMALLER CAR" (one of them did just that).
I could literally do donuts in the space they have but apparently the ENTIRE ROAD is not enough for them to pull into/out of their driveway!

/Rant

But at the same time, the fact that he is asking us could also tell you, based on principal, to fight it. 14 years of parking on the street and one random cop, probably got a disturbance call in the neighborhood just rolled by and felt like being a **** or upping his ticket count.

For 54$ its not the end of the world to just pay the ticket and move on but the stupidity of the ticket itself is worth fighting. I have a sneaking suspicion that this cop, if you did fight and win (due to no show in court) would show back up on your street just to be a **** and catch you the next time you park in the street.

They probably drift over the center line/out of their lane anytime the road curves a little too, just like most of the suv owners I see everyday.

Next thing you know you won't be able to pump your own gas!

JK OP! In all seriousness this is a lousy situation to be in. If situation allows I'd fight this since its your home. Agreed with the comment that the home owner should be the one that enters the complaint if it is to be enforced.

Why no warning first? A ticket can be a warning before it's a citation on a statute that probably 99.99% of the residents don't know about.

That sucks and its most likely not worth fighting. A cop gave me a ticket up in west milford for flashing him with my highbeams because he had his on it was a $50 something dollar ticket and if I wanted to fight it you start off with something like $30 for a court fee, they need you do come back at a time when the cop would be present and they could pull up some other stupid fees. Stupid stupid stupid
