Someone earlier posted a photoshopped picture of one of the side emblems on the back of the car replacing the scion emblem. I thought about this too. I just looked at the pins that stick out of the 86 side emblem and the picture of the holes left after the scion emblem was removed and they don't look like they will match up, the offset is wrong. But if you cut the pins off the side emblem it looks as though they will cover the holes and look great. Just thought I'd give everyone a heads up on this.

I should check the dimensions, but when I eyeballed it I thought that the emblem would cover the holes. I love the idea, but my dealer can't get any extra 86 emblems yet.

didn't carson say that he compared the 86 badges already to all the toyota badges from other cars in his parts department and none was the same?

I'm talking about the 86/pistons badge that is on the side of the front fenders.

Darren, You can get the 86 pistons on ebay from a place in Japan but the best I found for the red trimmed emblem was $68.00 each and $18.00 shipping. That's where I saw the back of it. It looks like it will cover the holes no problem but the pins are not going to work for the install. Just cut them off the double sided tape will hold it on. I want to do it but 66 + 18 = 84 dollars for 1. Its not the money its the principle. Although I'll probably pull the trigger if I can't come up with something better. I think "TURBO" would work there nicely.

Has any one took a regular Toyota badge. I would be very surprised if they made a separate badge for just the GT86. That would not be cost effective at all. I would recommend going to a dealer with your removed badge and see what they have and which ones will fit. I would be willing to bet a lot that they share a badge with some ADM car.

Well, I finally got the side "Boxer 86" emblem installed on the back, and I think it looks great.

Ordered the emblem from the parts counter at my Toyota dealer: $41.01. Part number SU003-03125:

Here's the "before":

Got out my fine-point panel removal tool, a soft, lint-free wipe, and some goo-gone:

Using the correct tool for the job is very important for any job. In this case it made emblem removal a piece of cake. The old emblem came off in a jiffy and did not mar the surface whatsoever. Super easy. Took 10 seconds. I think it was helped by the 100-degree heat we had today. Used my fingers to roll up the small amount of "goo" left behind. Barely needed the goo-gone:

Note the two peg-holes and the small dimple in the trunk lid molding. This dimple makes it very easy to align and center the replacement emblem. Also note, the alignment pegs on the new emblem are the opposite layout as the original emblem:

Easily remedied with a needle nose pliers -- I just broke off the pegs from the new emblem:

Carefully aligned the new emblem, peel, and stick. I did use a pencil to very lightly mark where to line it up, just as a precaution. Voila!:

Here's another view:

Last step -- remove the FR-S emblem to complete the clean-up of the rear view. It came off just as easily as the other one:

So, I'm very happy with the effect. To me it nicely simplifies, and visually cleans up, the rear perspective of the car.

Cheers,

Dave

Meanwhile, at the Toyota dealer I spent a little time in the parking lot measuring emblems of the various Toyota models. Hoping to find a US "Toyota T" emblem that matches for the front end of the FR-S.

The "Scion" oval on the front of the FR-S measures 11.0cm across by 7.5cm tall. Lo and behold, the "T" oval on the trunk lid of the 2012 Corolla (i.e. post mid-cycle facelift) seems to measure exactly the same.

It is this version of the Corolla (note the chrome bar across the back end and the updated taillights. It can be either an "LE" or an "S" model, they both use the same oval "T" emblem):

Not this Corolla (pre-2012 facelift), because it has a larger "T" emblem:

So, I ordered that Corolla emblem from the parts counter, and it should come in by the end of the week. I will let everyone know how it goes.

Cheers,

Dave

I will be welding the holes up when i debadge the car.... Spot weld sand back and repaint.... Very easy although so is just bogging and respraying.. I avoid bog whenever possible... Pricy obviously but some can be bothered, some see no point.. Each to there own... However if i can find some small enough plugs id consider them in the short term....

It is a plastic panel in the rear, not metal.
