Well I'm confused, what I read is

There are four colours to choose from – WR Blue Pearl, Crystal Black Silica, Sunrise Yellow and Crystal White Pearl, with the latter two colours costing an additional RM986. The six-speeder stick shifter variant is priced at ¥3,990,000

3990000 Japanese Yen equals
36334.8552
This is also confirmed by motortrends test and info on jdm ts at suzuka circuit est at 36 us equivalent.

Pretty sure we all know they have models as cheap as 20,000 usd equivalent in Japan.

Not a budget car or budget brz, even in Japan.

You can't compare yen to USD in a direct conversion. The exchange rate has varied from ¥85/$1 to ¥120/$1 since the BRZ hit the US market. The cars are priced for what the market will bear in the US and the spec will be modified to ensure the vehicle is profitable in the US.

I think this could be a cost or supply issue. They already admitted prior that they went with Showa during the first tS run because Bilstein is more expensive and they couldn't finalized the part in time for production. It's either that or the Sachs part performs almost if not just as good while costing much less.

IIRC the optional dampers for the current standard WRX STI in Japan and also on the Levorg STI Sport is Bilstein.

The '15 JDM tS car had a Bilstein damper, but this is a newer tS car. I don't think the selection was made based on the cost. For example, the retail price between Sachs and Bilstein in Germany is similar. Maybe Subaru believes they are an improvement. Other reputable tuners in Japan are also switching to Sachs. The GT300 BRZ also uses Sachs dampers.

Same can be said about the rear wing, which is not as the one in the '13 JDM tS car. It looks that the newer wing has some aero improvements for better stability.

Although there could have been other contractual considerations the number one deciding factor would indeed be cost. The project would have been sent to tender for X number of parts with Y specs and whoever meets the specs at the lowest price (and other possible considerations) gets the work.

Retail prices mean nothing in the OEM supply world. Sachs could even be selling at a loss per unit just to have their name attached to the car or for other considerations. You have to throw everything you know about costs out the window when talking OEM deals.

That's such a hillbilly question outside of North America.

Yeah, just as how the brembo brake system are not true brembos at all. They're rebranded sumitomos that they then paid to have the brembo name endorsed upon.

They must have figured we were too smart to spend 8 grand for seats and a wing instead of actual performance.
Plz resist urge to fanboi
That is so true....i really don't think Us spec ts will come with those chairs.

We will know when the car actually comes out but i don't think it will receive that many special things as they did on the japanese tS.

Correction: Million dollar question, will it be fast? It must be quick to warrant such a humongous rear thingy..

Just like how Ohlins Road & Track suspension kits are not real Ohlins, but rebranded Carrozzeria products from Japan.

I can't believe nobody mentioned that there were two trims for the BRZ tS in Japan, the standard one without a wing and stock seats, and the more limited GT Package that came with the ramen table wing and Recaros.

Looks like they are giving us half the GT package here.

Even for the WRX STI tS there were the standard trim and the NBR Challenge Pack trim.

Don't get so hung up on Recaros and Brembos. It's like shoes with Vibram outsoles, so much hype but the truth is you will end up slipping on the ground more compare to the non-branded rubber.
