So I came from the 03-15 evo world. I've been tuning them with tactrix cable + ecuflash since 07. How did ecuflash go from such a nice user friendly program with lots of updates, lots of constantly updated ROMs with nifty features like multiple maps, map switching through our intercooler sprayer switches or with holding down gas pedals, no lift shift, warning functions, electronic boost controls, anti-lag, cam adjustments etc etc... for both US generations of the evolution to this hollow patch work thing you have going on here?

How did it go from one platforms primary tuning program for daily driven 700hp cars running e85, multiple map switching while in motion, ecu controlled boost, and speed density to this subcommunity of a subcommunity for the brz, with no support and no one using it on the brz/86 platform? :-(

Better yet how are ecutek and oft a thing when this community has access to ecuflash? Ecuflash is pretty much on par with ecutek in the evo world. I'm really shocked to see how polar opposite the situation is here with no real push to have it mirror a similar level of functionality and versatility.

I always knew the gods smiles down on mitsubishi with great, cheap and easy to use tuning options like DSM Link for the eclipse and ecuflash for the evo. It was one of biggest reason I stayed away from other platforms.

So here is how I remember ecuflash going

1) get cable, drivers, ecuflash
2) copy and paste current version of evo ROM
3) get .xml with all the neat tweaks you want, make sure ROM fits your ecu model year and region,
4) free data logger program
5) use the data logging program
6) download .bin from your car,
7) edit in ecuflash,
8) load back into car,
9) data log
10) rinse repeat

From everything I've read in the case of the brz/86 this seems to be the order of operations:

1) get cable, drivers, ecuflash
1.1) get romraiders, download 32bitbase file
2) copy and paste current version of brz ROM
3) get .xml with all the neat tweaks you want, make sure ROM fits your ecu model year and region
3.1) looking through the table definitions on romraiders and through the posted pics of the table options in the romraiders software there seems to be quite a large gap in the extras department between brz and evo. along with a large gap between table definition/options in romraiders and ecutek
4) free data logger program
4.1) No good logging option for the tactrix cable + ecuflash combo (so forget points 4 & 5)
5) use the data logging program
6) download .bin from your car
6.1) Stays the same
7) edit in ecuflash
7.1) convert to romraiser format
7.2) edit in romraiders (disregard step 7)
7.3) convert back to .bin ecuflash usable form.
8) load back into car with ecuflash
9) data log
9.1) (reference step 4.1)
10) rinse repeat

Was I close to the mark on my estimations of the current ecuflash situation here?

Here are my main questions about ecuflash in relation to a turbo application:
1) Are there any xml definitions with boost control features and/or e85 features such as map switching or flexfuel
2) For the timing and fuel maps can the load values be increased if so what is their maximum value?

Notable observations on the current state of brz/86 tuning:
-No one is currently working on new features/definitions. At least I believe that is what i read some pages back. This is kind of a sad thing to find out.

-Lastly one of the biggest shocks of all is that this community is so dependent and ok with the idea of "mail in" tunes. pre-made mail in tunes got so beaten out of the mitsubishi community because they were blowing up engines left and right in the early evo years. Ecuflash came around and the idea of personalized road/dyno tuning with many many many log pulls became the standard so the tune can best fit the car after that the rate of engine failures decreased dramatically thereafter. But everyone here is in a copy someone else's tune free for all, like I said earlier total polar opposite of what I'm familiar with.

^^^ That last point is the whole reason ecutek methods and business model rubs me the wrong way. It may not be as big a deal for NA applications but for the forced induction guys doing this email tag with one log sent to the tuner thing has me saying a little prayer for their motor.

I am not the one that will defend the current situation. Maybe others can comment on your post. However, I was also skeptical of how things evolved in our platform. I've seen areas that are similar of what you 're saying. In general, you 'll hear regularly from members that our cars are just a "sporty" cheap option. This cause issues of how the platform evolves, what the customer will expect from products and what the vendors or free community will offer ...

Major difference between brz\86 and evo or wrx is that those cars sre factory turbo. So the factory ecu fimware caters for turbo whereas brz\85 is na so the factory ecu firmware has no turbo control in it.

The brz\86 platform has only been arround a few years but unfortunatly tgier were quire a few factory updated roms.

Also as its fairly new not many poeple have come along and developed the sxtra code for boost flex map witch.

One guy ztan has done overboost cut speed density and flex but only on one rom, ie not developed as a patch that can be appled to all the different roms.

This type of work takes hundreds of hours of development by people who already have skills in tuning and ecu code disassembly and code writing c, not something​you pick up overnight.


Theirs not many people arroind that are prepared to give hundreds of hours of thier time for free :-)

Ya makes sense. I was using ecuflash on my first evo 8 back in 2005-2006. At that point they had only been around for a few years, though they just had basic tables it was very much bare bones. All the extras started to show up around 2007-2008. I'm pretty impatient, I get the whole time is money argument, and i want to get the ball rolling on this.

So my main questions are:

-Who are the main people, person or entity that can develop this for us?

-Can they give us a price they are willing to accept to make our platform on par with the features and usability seen on the mitsu platform or ecutek?

-Though our ecu doesn't come with factory boost options, ecutek proves that it doesn't need to come with factory boost to incorporate those options.

-What sort of timeline can we expect for this price?

-Has any "Donate Here" area or page been set up for this development?

-Can we set up a donation/go fund me type of thing for this?

A community that is ok paying $2000 for a rocket bunny kit* and $2000 for a mail tuning service** should be able to raise the money for a part-time/full time software engineer to develop a functional user friendly free tuning software compatible with the tactrix cable and ecuflash software.

* Estimate includes kit, installation and paint.
** Estimate includes cable, license, flexfuel kit, raceROM, ecu connect, electronic boost controller, 4 bar MAP sensor, and installation.

The only guy that done any opensource development is linked below, hes also said hes not rearly interedted in persuing it anymore.

The oft open flash tablet guys used this work and are funnjng this flex and overboost mods on their turbo tunes with speed by design turbo kit think they go to about 12 psi on e85 arround tge 350whp mark.

The other issue with opensource development is a complete unbricking solution for these ecu. Software guys often brick the ecu, Their is no full unbrick solution for thix ecu yet, i know a guy whos bricked several trying stuff.


So its certianly possible to do opensource boost, but you wont have electronic boost control intergrated like ecutek or map switching.

The chances of someone develloping opensource features similar to ecutek are pretty slim i think you guys on evo and wrx were very lucky..

Realisticly if you wsnt say map switching and other high end features above what oft guys have then id say just buy ecutek, unfortunatly you tunes eill be locked excetp got maybe James Martin from HRI tuning and i thing VitVviper tuning

New 2017 K00G rom added this is European car that does not get the red intake manifold or the power updates, and is old logic rom. Different to the Australian or USA cars that got red manifold

Compared to A01G, I wonder how they can still claim 200 hp? What am I missing?

You could probably transfer the relevant tables into your old rom.


The ECU hardware is still same. But its likely that the security is different.


We tried a A01G in a 2017 car and it caused security lockout. It doesn't brick ecu , but you would need to do the ecu swap procedure (same ecu) to re-sync security with original rom if the 2017 wont work in older car, which I suspect will be the case.


so much easier to just transfer tune tables

All the same. Something doesn't add up.

Changes to A01G:
- Load Compensation MP (table is bigger and has different values at low MP)
- CL fueling Target B minor change
- OL/CL Delay minor changes
- Some changes to cranking
- All base timing tables up to 5 deg less timing advance
- Knock correction Max Advance minor adjustment, but doesn't compensate for above.
- Transient Ignition Retard different values and new table size
- Max CFP delta for Transient Ignition Retard (what is that?), other values
- Ignition timing post start, more retard
- AFR Sensor Atmospheric pressure comp, different values
- Desired Overrun Mass airflow A+B different values (maybe the same as A02G, I didn't check)
- Error codes for rear 02 sensor

17 tables not defined in the new ROM. However, none that would explain the lack of ignition advance.

One table has an error in the definition:

Yes quite possible, do you know what mods the euro 2017 version has did it get new header and the red intake or just header, maybe cats more efficient as well.

We got the full package anf the 5 kw increase and the new logic rom,like usa manuals but for some reason europe got cut down version but i dont knpw what specs
