And cut about 90% of the people on this forum right out of the market for one reason or another.

Interesting, care to post any information as to where you heard the second gen is "all but dead"? Very recently media is reporting a second gen is imminent.

Market for what? When they go to buy a different car?

The market for a sub 30K car that makes a suitable introduction to the sports car world or can be a nice little DD. You think half these guys can afford what the price tag on the new Supra will be? Even if they can how many would want it?
Never sure why everybody thinks that if people are here they are also interested in the Supra.

The "media" knows no more about it then you or I. They are speculating as there has been no official statements by anybody about a second gen.

Good point!
Or that we may be better off with a Miata.

Exactly. If I have Supra money in the next couple years, I'm buying a Cayman.

I don't think FT86 fans are Toyota or Subaru fans. They're fans of well-handling, balanced, rear-wheel drive sports cars. They just don't have supercar money.

Even if you find all the parts, factory will not provide all of them to you. Some require to have a valid tS VIN number. It really doesn't worth it. Some guys did it here, because at that time the tS model was available only in Japan.
A totally fair point. However, based on the knowledge we have so far, that's what were looking at. TS advertised as a PP plus bigger wheels, bigger wing, the ground effects, draw stiffener, and flexible v-brace. Plus whatever changes they make to the door cards, cluster visor, and probably the cluster itself. Change to the stereo surround as well. No mention of Recaro seats in their press release, but the older JDM TS releases did have full fat Recaros.

If that's the extent of the changes, I'll probably stick with a PP. No mention of the upgraded bushings of the original. So much of the decision depends on the pricing as well. Any guesses on pricing? Anything north of 35K seems excessive.

Not based on media. I have a few friends and industry professionals who have either worked or have been connected to Toyota Japan and Subaru Japan over the years, including some who are long time friends with Tetsuya Tada.

From what was told to me, the team behind the project were at odds over what a proper successor should be, and due to time constraints and resources, engineers on the project eventually left to focus on other cars (e.g. SF-R, Supra, etc.). Subaru apparently has an interest to continue, but only if Toyota commits the same resources as their current partnership (the biggest essentially is money), but at this point it sounds like unknown. So its not to say the project is officially dead, but it just appears there no solid traction.

The current generation is slated to run til MY2020 (so another two years).

Actually, guys to talk about some things in relation to the above.

ONLY confirmation comes from an interview with Toyota, this is a confirmation by the head of Toyota European Division. Secondly, Akio Toyoda has confirmed his commitment to keeping the brand fun meaning there is gonna be room for a sports car with Toyota. At least for now will that be an 86 we don't know.

NO official word because it's too early in the cycle to announce anything if you said something now no one would buy a 2017 model.

Subaru, on the other hand, has not said anything at all.

No solid information. period.

Also, there was a time where people who owned Celica would want a Supra after. But we're not running in the 90s anymore.

I guess it is too late. Even if the team comes back, they 'll not have enough time to introduce a new generation.
