Latest on this. We're going to 3D print a larger outer shell, which requires 0 structural integrity. As seen in the previous post, the strength comes from the inner core. We're going to machine an aluminum extension that attaches to the top screws. This way we keep the factory hardware, including the trunk clips.
Next steps is we're getting in touch with a friend who knows the 3D scanning company for an intro. |

Update: The spoiler piece has just been sent to the 3D scanning company, who'll receive it by Tuesday. Within 24 hours of the 3D scan we'll have a model that we can use for CAD design. They're going to take photos of the scanning process so that I can post them here!
The spoiler is sold entirely as one piece, so you can't buy the spoiler trunk attachment piece separately. Still thinking about the cost to sell this thing once we get pricing on cost to 3D print taller shell and CNC the metal riser. A friend is a product photographer - we'll get some great shots when it's completed! |

First the part is coated in a non-reflective powder that makes scanning extremely precise up to a 10th of a millimeter.
![]() Then it's scanned ![]() And now we have a 3D CAD model to begin working!

I may have missed this, but are you developing a center support extension too?

It doesn't need it. The center support isn't connected, and I would posit that the only reason it's even there is because the spoiler sits too low to comfortably place your fingers under it to close the trunk, so they assumed that even though the manual tells you not to close the trunk by grabbing the spoiler, you will anyways.

The wing is made of aluminum which I assumed bends pretty easily, which is why the current piece is there. However it's also possible that the center support isn't needed and in that case, we'll produce a rubber cap that goes over the screw holding the rubber piece in place. |
