I can almost guarantee my catback could be the loudest besides a straight pipe though. It's 3in and has a small cannon style muffler and a straight through resonator so nothing really to quiet it down much haha

I haven't used an N1 since my 240sx days; I think a lot of the loudness comes from how small the actual muffler is--along how the sound just zips straight through. i never had the pleasure of owning an s2k but the F series engines did benefit from a single exit N1 style cat back. i can't recall exactly what they sounded like in person but they were certainly louder than the dual exit mufflers.

If you ever get a catless uel header your neighbors will not be happy. Get a Perrin 2.5 Resonated & it won't be LOUD! It will be loud when it needs to be.

Perrin & JDL UEL
I have a Perrin resonated 2.5 cat back, JDL UEL catted coated headers and OFT stage 2 for catted headers and 91 octane, and It is quite loud on cold start. It quiets down with a couple of minutes warming and is not ridiculous after that. Cruising is not loud but volume increases noticeably even with moderate throttle increase. I'm still considering returning to the stock exhaust to tone things down a bit. The set up is great functionally. More power and interestingly more fuel efficient as well.

I have the Invidia N1 Catback with an Injen SP1230P CAI and just installed the FT-86 SpeedFactory Catless UEL Headers on Saturday with an OFT Stage 2 map. I concur with other posters - it is a LOUD combination. Brilliant performance, though.
My neighbors don't get to complain - one owns a C5 corvette with aftermarket exhaust and the other owns the riciest WRX STi I've ever heard (and that f'er leaves for work before 6 a.m. every day, revving the damn thing like he's trying to kill it every time). Of course, I can't get too mad at him because it was his Subie's burble that motivated me to get the UELs... I'm going to whip out my commercial microphone setups later this week and pull some sound. I'll post the clips here once I get them done (getting the car detailed on Wednesday, so it will be camera-ready ).

With the FT86speed Factory Catted UEL Header + Invidia N1, its very mild an quiet. My neighbors actually thanked me the other day for putting the car back to "stock" but I didn't tell them its still modified...
I guess loudness is relative to each person. So with the baseline of a Tomei 60s, being insanely loud with a header... everyone including my local autox club thinks its nearly stock, which is kinda funny. So I miss it, but I hate the torque dip more. |
