I just read somewhere on the forum that it's suppose to be right in between both dots : /. Anyways, I just did an oil change on her from dealership and will do a test run later today ><. Wish me luck

Well if you do have an engine problem that makes a bad noise you will feel it when you drive, hesitation, missing etc. you wont have a magical problem all the while the car drives fine.
If it drives fine id say you are being silly. I would drive the car hard rpm wise and make sure its running properly. If you have a problem it will break and be under warranty, there is nothing you can do anyways. Just to let you know these engines when they fail do it in a certain way that imo simply doesn't allign with your problem. |

It's a reference point. The two dots make up a quart usually. So if the oil level goes below the lower dot, you know there's a quart missing, you go buy a quart of oil and add it, which if you have an oil leak or an engine that's burning oil, will happen pretty often.

Read more carefully. The OP said that the oil level was on the top dot and insisted that it was over filled by his dealer. He also insisted that the normal oil level should be between the two dots and I said that it is wrong. If the oil level is more than the middle of the two dots you are not over filled!

The engine is designed to run with the minimum oil level at the lower dot (it's actually a hole drilled into the dipstick so you can actually see the film of oil if it reaches that hole ). The extra litre you can add to reach the top drilling (on my Alfa it is two litres!) is the safety margin adopted by most engine makers to allow for oil consumption between changes, that is all. Where you like to have your oil level on your dipstick between those two points is entirely a personal preference which has nothing to do with engine performance or protection.
If you corner very hard you should probably fill the sump close to the top mark to allow for surge. If you track your car fill to the top mark for maximum oil cooling. What you should never do is allow anyone to overfill the sump. Too much oil can seriously damage your engine. Too little never will as long as it never gets below the lower mark. I also say again that the dipstick on these cars can be very hard to read accurately. I think the handbook says you need to look at both sides of the dipstick and the lower level you can see the oil line is the correct one. I note that is quoted below. I always check twice for this reason. I owned an Audi that was worse. Sometimes you needed to check three or four times to be confident you had the right reading. Electronic dipsticks are much more reliable and, interestingly, display a little meaningless graphic (for traditionalists who still think oil level is important, it isn't) with text that is meaningful: oil low add oil, or oil ok, or see your dealer! |

How is this confusing? Dipsticks have been used to check fluid levels for thousands of years. There are two marks. A maximum and a minimum. As long as the oil doesn't go below the bottom or above the top all is good. No you do not want way over the top but a couple of ounces are not going to cause any issue. You certainly never want to go below the bottom though because then a couple of ounces can cause issues. Running from the middle to the top hole is the best bet since you are not risking suddenly going below. This has been standard practice in cars since they hit the road and is not complex or confusing.
