It brings back memories of trying to eat chicken and prime rib, both of which gave me issues. Especially the nerves in the prime rib... Nerves still give me pause when I encounter them in my prepared dead animal sustenance.

Oh, and the lungs that were effectively lumps of black rock (smoker) or the rotted liver...

It was insanely interesting, I think I was one of two drawing majors that kept going back with the medical illustration students to draw.

The smell is just... Intense. And not at all pleasant. But not rooting body unpleasant.

Yeah, formaldehyde or whatever that is.... All the color was gone from the old people cadavers I've seen. They had already been picked over by med students. Expected but still interesting to see the same shapes as those in slaughtered animals.

If you like cadavers you'll love one of the "Bodies" exhibitions if you have the chance to go to one. They have a permanent one in Atlanta. Creepy but fascinating at the same time.

For those that aren't familiar they use some type of process to preserve actual bodies so you can see how they look in motion or from the inside.

Actually, it was a Sunday evening.

My (now ex) to be father in law was caretaker for this small town cemetery.

The regular grave digger was sick, so he asked me if I would like to dig a grave for $50 ...... I said sure ..... I figured that would beat the hell out of baling hay for $1.00 an hour.

So, I headed up to the cemetery late afternoon to dig a hole in the ground, 3'x8'x7' deep. At about 9 PM I was about 1/2 way done ...... yep, many roots and rocks. The funeral was the next morning .......

So, I ran into town and called my brother to bring another shovel and an ax and come up to help me. He said that his car was tore apart and the only car in the barnyard was my grandfathers white Cadillac and he had left with my parents.

So, since the keys were in it, he drove it up to the cemetery, which was on a hill overlooking the small town. He aimed the headlights down into the grave so we could see.

When we were about finished ...... the constable cautiously drove up and ask us what the hell we were doing ... ?? He asked for the registration for that Cadillac, but of course we didn't know where it was.

Well, he "let us go" and we finished ...... but it was only 6' deep ...... my father in law was not happy, but he paid me anyway.

THE END
