One of the turbo vendor did, either D3PE , P&L or Full Blown without lifting the engine. Its buried somewhere in one of their threads.

Indeed, it has been mentioned that the plugs are accessible using small tools. I believe he used a 1/4" ratchet and some extensions. Doesn't look easy though.

Yeaa, I posted that before they made swirls on my ultramarine FR-S..They washed it without my permission and when I took it back my car looked like it had been through 100 000 washes...

Needless to say that they had to polish my paint for free I would have gone berserk in their service dep!

I completely agree with what you say, I won't even let them do my oil change now!

I am a Toyota Tech. So I took some offense to prior statements. And I agree somewhat. I don't trust the dealership my girlfriend had her car worked on years ago before I became a tech. But I am one of those guys who is completely organized and clean. I am on this site not just because I like this car but because Im a real car guy and love working on cars and plan on getting my own FRS someday. If you have a problem with a dealer your welcome to bring it up so that bad Tech can be taken care of. If your ever in the Twin Cites, MN your welcome to bring your car to me "Noe" Im probably the only guy to have fender aprons to put on cars to keep from scratching paint. I use Digital torque wrenches and have them calibrated once a year. Maybe Im just a perfectionist but you do get what you pay for. If someone in my dealership doesn't fix something right the first time its free until its done correctly. Experiences will obviously be different for everyone on any given day, I suggest find a tech you like and request em. I have so many request myself while this winter has slowed and everyone is lacking in meeting their production goals Im ahead.

So please we are all car guys lets limit some of the name calling a bit.

PS. Most free carwashes suck so ask the service advisor to not was your car. If you don't trust em have them put a post-it on the windshield not to wash, I would also hate scratches on my MR2.

Back to the Topic on hand. I have not had the courtesy to do spark plugs on this engine yet. I did see they have small spacers to hold the engine up while changing them out. Maybe once we get our first one in the shop ill remember to take pictures and see if there is any pros or cons to doing it one way or another. It shall be interesting and I hope I get the first crack at it but most likely a senior tech will be asked to do it. Which back to the thought of shady techs request for a tech who might be more familiar or would be expected to do an awesome jobs. All the service advisors know which guy is more familiar with one thing or another. Thats probably why I get the majority of MR2s and hybrids.

Like when adjusting the valves on your Honda engine. It can be time-consuming to get EXACTLY as you wish. It can be done fast, or perfectly; no tech is going to do it perfectly, except by accident on maybe one valve.

OP, don't let the instructions or parts removed intimidate you. I've been a garage mechanic for 15 years now and you would be AMAZED at just how easily everything goes back together after you've pulled it apart. Take plenty of pictures and go slow the first time. Plugs don't need to be changed until 60k miles so there is plenty of time. Once my warranty is up on the car I will be doing everything on it. Do your research and take pictures and you won't have any issues.

I actually was one of the first people non-mechanics to pull apart the vanos system in an E46 M3 here in socal. I took LOTS of pics and talked to lots of people. I took my time and everything turned out great! I was even able to teach the local garage mechanic how to work on them and he has literally helped hundreds of people saving them thousands of dollars! Its pretty fun working on your own car. Don't let the amount of work intimidate you!

If there isn't a "how to" by the time I hit 60k, I'll make sure to post one.

I was rather surprised to see a 60k change interval on an iridium plug. I just pulled out the FACTORY NGK double platinums out of my buddies G35x today. .088" gap is what we found with 160k miles on the odometer. Never missed a beat though. He just decided to change them to make sure, because the car was bought used about a year ago.

I would have thought they would use a 100k service plug at minimum, just because they're hard to get to.

A bunch of my earlier posts were me doing the "think carefully before spending $27k" thought processes. It pays to be overly cautious but it's moot now since I bought one and will be discovering the cost in hopefully around 5 years or more.

By that time everything will be known about these cars, as others have mentioned. Too late to turn back now.
