I think what helps with these is that the toe area and the heel don't have a rounded sole like the sparco shoes so I can get better grip on the brake pedal with the big toe/left side of the foot and be able to adequately reach the bottom part of the gas pedal with the right side of the foot/part of the heel.

I tried driving with vans shoes today and heel toe feels easier than sparco shoes lol. So I just returned those fancy sparco shoes.

If the outsole is too rounded and not squared then yes you will have a hard time being consistent in grabbing the right amount of gas pedal during heel and toe at least for this car.

The clutch pedal for this car is also too light for thick midsole shoes to have any sort of feel.

I like Pumas however for heel\toe on the 86 the brake and gas are too far apart so I use my Nike's as they're wide enough so I have my foot on at least half of the brake pedal and not have to use an extreme amount of ankle roll. The 86 is a good candidate for an aftermarket gas pedal that is a bit wider on the left side if you're into a narrower driving shoe.

My 2cents- Skechers CityWalk

Cheap, relatively thin sole that isn't so wide that it snags on everything like most sneakers/running shoes, especially at the heel. Here's a link to amazon, although I recommend shopping around because they're almost always on sale somewhere.

I dont know why people say these cars pedals are far apart. I only wear a 9.5 and have zero problems.

But! I had an ae86 and tried some fancy sparco driving shoes. Hated it. I think sparco puma teamed up on those. Circa 2003? Eh, i think just puma. I had sparco gloves.

You can find some great driving shoes from Puma. They also are not that expensive at all $40 or less. Just find something with a thin sole and rubber that rides up on the heel. These are mine and I love to drive in them.
