So in coastal areas the rain can carry salt, because the salt is carried in the sea breezes that blow onto land. I could see that happening in and around Salt Lake as well.

Although it still exists acid rain is no longer what we grew up with. It's reduction is one of the reasons our car paint sucks so bad now.

![]() Salt spray is largely responsible for corrosion of metallic objects near the coastline, as the salts accelerate the corrosion process in the presence of abundant atmospheric oxygen and moisture. Salts do not dissolve in air directly, but are suspended as fine particulates, or dissolved in microscopic airborne water droplets. Acid rain is rainfall made sufficiently acidic by atmospheric pollution that it causes environmental harm, typically to forests and lakes. The main cause is the industrial burning of coal and other fossil fuels, the waste gases from which contain sulfur and nitrogen oxides, which combine with atmospheric water to form acids. At least that's what Wiki told me. humfrz |

There's wind in SLC. Lots.
When the waves break, salty droplets get caught up in the air column. That's mostly what the coastal areas contend with too. edit: When it's dry, hot and windy salt crystals from the flats get blown everywhere. I had a car that lived in Hawaii for a while before I got it. $250 worth of cosmetic rust + the rest of the car.

Understood, I just meant the same process as acid rain for the rain to contain salt or other contaminants...

They shouldn't ban the car. They should ban the drivers with poor record history for speed contests, speeding, dui, etc.

Kind of unrelated, but speaking of speed, I was reading evo magazine and the claimed 0-62 mph for the euro-spec GT86 is listed as 7.4 sec (manual, not actually timed by the magazine), while car and driver timed the US spec 86 (also manual) as 6.2 sec. Why such a huge discrepancy. No way the few less hp in the euro car are producing a 1.2 sec disadvantage lol. Is the gearing different? Or are they inept at timing?

![]() lol @ OP... the teenager drifting his 86 through turns in a neighborhood is at least as dangerous as the rich guy doing 60-120 mph roll races on the highway in his demon.
