Within my circle of folks, I know a few people who would not even consider the 86 due to low torque numbers, but that's just a small subset of the population. Of course they are not the same level. If they built the car that most of the YouTube commentators or complainers want then it WOULD be more in line with those cars. They can not produce it all and keep the price point it has. It is impossible. If they built it to that level it would not sell at all. If people want a Mustang buster then they are going to have to pay up for something more.

People want luxury appointments, huge power, perfect handling and suspension, 12 layers of paint, and everything else that the big boys have but they want it at an econo car price. It ain't gonna happen. I say again anybody wanting all those things have any choices already but they are unwilling or unable to pay for them.

My only objection is that these more expensive cars don't have the balance of ours. The cost factor is a very important one, but not the only one. I am aware of some professional drivers that have driven all the types of expensive and strong cars (Porsches, Lotuses, McLarens, etc.) and still saying that they were impressed much more with the twins. Additionally, they have as personal cars BRZ's/86's and they even like to run in races with these, than using the much stronger ones.

Sometimes they're saying that a picture is worth a thousand words. So, I leave it here. The place that a BRZ deserves among the classics:

This fits right in with my point since adding more power could throw off that balance, again placing it right with all the others in both price and performance. They can not just slap a turbo on it or use one of the other engines without considerable changes to the rest of the car. Before anybody jumps on that let's be clear that what people do to their own car is not under the same restrictions as the manufacturers have to work in.

I am keeping my fingers crossed that they put a real engine in the car. A V6 would be nice.

Other than that, the car is reaching a point where it is due for a facelift. Traditional path has always been to make the car bigger and more of a cruiser. But it has also been the death spiral, so I hope they don't go that way.

The twins are built around the occasional rear seats as a signature design feature. A decision could be made to eliminate them and take the Miata on head-to-head in the two seat sports car market.

Your first statement counters your second. If they go with a V6 then the car would naturally have to be bigger and more of a cruiser. At least in the marketing peoples eyes.


If they decide to go toe to toe with the Miata they already have a car in the works that may be better suited for the task. May never actually see it here though.

Except that it looks ugly in that picture, I like the concept of the SFR. Not heard anything about it?! Is it a real thing?

As to the desire for a small V6 it is more based on wanting an engine sound that is more appealing than the flat 4. I would settle for a nice in-line 4 if it kept the light weight theme going.

The SFR concept still pops up now and then but only Toyota knows for sure what they will do with it (if anything at all).
Sound is subjective. I personally love the sound of a boxer and greatly prefer it over a V6 or straight 4.
