Based on the information you've given us so far, this sounds correct. Unfortunately it looks like your premium for the 86 is much higher than it is for your previous car, and that wasn't made clear to you when you replaced it. I see it happen every day.

Progressive is quoting me with the same coverage for $150 less/6 mo. Is it worth switching? I'm not sure what kinds of benefits long term customers get, although a quick search says not much. My automatic payment & renewal with Geico is tomorrow, so I'll still have a little time to buy Progressive starting today and call/cancel my current policy. It sounds like Geico is easier to deal with in the case of a claim. Can anyone attest to this? |

I previously had insurance for single car (86), single driver at $650. After renewal for the same plan, it will be $1105. Do you mean they accidentally gave me too low of a rate, and are now making it up?

No accidents in 10 yrs, but I did get a ticket for speeding at 102mph 2 yrs ago. Not sure how Geico checks for stuff like that, but don't think it really affected my rates. Of course, I never reported it to them either lol |

Not necessarily. It sounds to me as if we don't have the full picture. Maybe you got a red light camera ticket you are unaware of or something. Have you called them and asked yet? They will tell you why your premium increased. Calling your insurance company is literally your best course of action to determine why your rate is what it is. |

That's the standard reason we use, and it's generally the truth. The amount of the increase is worrysome though. Most of the time it's 10-20 a month, not 60-70. |

I had an increase of around 25 per month in January. Looks like my ticket from a couple years ago is on my record now too, so it's probably a combination of the ticket and lots of accidents with the twins. Ain't mad, better than the 440 a month I was paying when I was 18

I can accept that, but like you said, the amount is unsettling. It must be a combination of the the above, along with being initially offered a lower rate to get my business.

If I took off all the discounts for my BRZ and did single driver single car with no discounts, the premium would've been in the neighborhood of $1600-2000 annual for a single male, 35, with excellent credit in 91745. Full coverage, $500 deductible, 150k/300k on liability. With all the stacked discounts, my insurance for two cars was $1400 full coverage. Granted, this also included many things like multi-car policy, etc, but the point is if I took out only my BRZ premiums, my policy would've been closer to $2k. You are just paying the more accurate rate now, I really don't see anything wrong with the price given your age and the amount of miles you drive. -alex |

Yeah. Insurance rates are constantly changing, often times it feels like they only go up, but if you stick with your company and continue to maintain your driving record, you should eventually see them go down. I started with Geico when I was 23, I was paying $180/month for 100/300/100 with comp and collision at $500 + roadside and rental car for a 2005 Honda civic. I've been with them going on 4 years now and I pay $103 a month for the same coverage on my FRS. I'm not saying it's guaranteed, but it definitely can get better when you establish loyalty with a company. |

Yea, mine just went up as well. I went from 184.34 to 279.17. That is for mine and my wife's car though. For the BRZ on it's own it is 137.83 a month. Neither me nor my wife have bad credit (lowest reported for me is trans union with 817) and we should not have any tickets on record. I was in a few wrecks dating back 5+ years ago where I was hit by a few drunk drivers; I was getting hit by a drunk a year for a while there. Both me and my wife were in hit and run wrecks where we had to take dashcam footage to court to get the damage paid out, but that shouldn't effect my insurance as I never filed a claim with my insurer (USAA).

I use a broker so never really know who my actual insurance company will be until I get the renewal card. The broker shops it around every quarter and wherever they get the best rate is now my company. The small fee I pay the broker to do this is returned many times over each year.
