I did notice my insurance go up $10 a month last month. I look at the bill and think damn I gotta call and see what happened. Then stuff happens and 5 minutes later I totally forget.

Although, if mine went up 70% heads would roll 2 seconds after I saw that bill.

May have missed it during thread skimming but have you played around with your numbers to see how much your monthly rate changes?

I increased my deductible from $200 to $1000 2 years ago and rate dropped tons. Keep money in the bank specifically dedicated toward paying the deductible just in case something does happen.

Also, you may be carrying too much coverage. When I first started driving, I didn't know what the numbers meant so I had them (State Farm) choose for me. Had me at 100/250/100. Definitely had that changed when I switched to Progressive.

GEICO rates go up because their profit margin losses are passed on to customers. Progressive doesn't invest customers $$$$ which is why their rates can be a little cheaper. I've gone back n forth between GEICO & Progressive in the last year! If I can save $$$ I'll switch. Hard to justify a $150.00 rate hike by GEICO when I had no claims or accidents & tickets. That hike was for 6 months. I went back to Progressive. That's savings of $$$$ I can use for car parts!

Shop around & if you quote from progressive again have them email to you. That way they can't say they not gonna honor quote.

When I was a child, an elementary school teacher decided to take a 2 hour break by sticking in a VHS tape. Miss Piggy domestically assaulted a amphibious character. That's not fair.

22... explains the high premium. Were you part of a policy that had an older driver as well, and now that other driver is no longer on the policy?

I was paying $380 per MONTH until I hit 25 this past december.

heck and I was feeling bad paying somewhere around $1600/year

I used to own a motorcycle and have it bundled, its insurance was something like $110/year.. it was stupid cheap, and I recall it actually saving me some money on my then car, which was a pos Hyundai accent. fyi that pos is still drving, so its a tough pos, just not sexy or fun.. and it smells like a farm now. I digress. Location does make a lot of difference.

I had already set my collision deductible to $1000, and going any higher wasn't making enough of a change to the premium to do so. I'm at 50/100/50, and going the next level down seems a little too low for comfort (although this is speaking with minimal experience).

Unfortunately, Geico is still giving me one of the best rates I can find despite the ridiculous price hike. I'm also part of a "Professional Group Insurance Plan" that is giving me $330 off the 6/mo term. Without this, the prices would be similar to Allstate, AAA, etc.

Previously, I was only driving vehicles primarily insured and owned by my mom (corolla/camery if that matters). The 86 was purchased solely under my name, so was essentially forced to get my own policy.

$380? I wonder how premiums in NY compare to CA for other folks (non early 20s with sports cars).

I'm paying roughly $160/m here in Dallas. 32yo, FRS, 1 point on record for a speeding ticket last year. I've received quotes from a bunch of places and no one can even get close to dropping it enough for me to even want to switch. I even tried to bundle my home and auto insurance and my insurance would have gone up!

*shrug*

Another reason insurance is so high. Everyone's first response to an accident is "sue them".

Wait, so did this 70% increase happen as a result of you getting your own policy? or did you already have your own policy for the 86 and then that jumped 70% at renewal?

And now that I'm 25, insurance is down to 220 a month.
