First time hearing the crickets on a 2017 BRZ

To date I have only filled the car up with Shell 91, but last weekend I was out in the country and had to fill up at a Pioneer station. Sure enough, on the way into work this morning I heard a mild chirping sound. At first I had no idea what it was and thought the windshield wipers were making the noise. I briefly turned off the wipers and the chirping continued. Then I remembered "crickets!".

The sound persisted until I hit the on-ramp and went WOT through 2nd and 3rd. Afterwards, it was gone.

Anyone else with a 2017 that has experienced crickets?

I've seen other people report them in other MY17 threads. They have a revised pump that eliminates crickets, but I don't think there is a TSB for the MY17 yet.

The 2017's come with the revised HPFP. Even those who have gotten their's replaced via the TSB are eventually getting the crickets back. The real test will be once the summer temps set-in.

You sure it was crickets not a damp belt or something?
I have never had them unless it was very warm out and even then only at idle. As soon as I started to move they went away. Not a 17 though so maybe they just changed instead of getting rid of them.

i have a my17, and i hear crickets and makes me worried.
I dont hear them at idle, but only in 2nd e 3rd gear under 3k rpm..
This occurs specially when slowing down when still on gear but not pressing the gas pedal
while the car, and the engine, slow down, crickets appear
and also when i'm in 2nd gear, low rpm (say 1900-2000) and i accelerate.. lots of crickets.

Should i be worried?

Are you sure it's crickets and not clutch chatter? MTs have clutch chatter coasting in lower RPMs. Nothing to be worried about.

Nobody has proven that. In fact there is more evidence that late 16s have the new pump.

No even if they are they are not hurting anything. Doubt it is crickets though.

This is more likely.

I have to wonder if some that think they have crickets are hearing something else. Historically the crickets went away immediately when the car was in gear or moving.

I haven't seen one case of the crickets coming back with the newest TSB replacement pumps. Some people have had it installed for over 6 months now.

Fair point. I'll have to take a look inside the garage tomorrow morning when the car has dried off.

I've had my pump for over a month and am in Texas where its been hot out already, no crickets at all.

And yeah, I was under the impression that crickets only happened when the car was up to operating temperature and at idle, people saying they've having them in 2nd or 3rd gear makes me wonder if they're hearing the DI ticking and thinking its crickets?
