There is nothing wrong with cruising at 3,000. Nothing at all. I cruise at 3,200 in 6th to go 70. Should I have another gear to keep revs down?
I do the same! Hahaha. Sometimes higher if I want to have fun. :P

Waaaaay toooo late.

Back-in-the-day, my engine stayed below 3000 rpms AND the transmission (which consisted of a idler pulley, that when manually tightened up against the belt between the pulley on the driveshaft and the pulley on the drive axle) would make the car go faster .....or less fast. Did ya get all of that .....??

I started with a auto transmission (called a centrifugal clutch) and converted it a manual transmission (described above) ........because ......

A MANUAL TRANSMISSION WAS MORE MANLY in my roadster .....

Some CVTs already come damn close. My wife's old RVR (Outlander Sport) would hit 3,000 and just sit there as the CVT spooled up through the pulley. No shift points. No fluctuations in RPM. Just hit 3k and keep going faster and faster until you took your foot off the pedal and it leveled out at 1,500 to cruise. Weirdest sensation ever.

I probably clocked 500K miles in one version of that or another. If you only have one story about forgetting which side of the case you were on then you did way better than I did.

The one time that I remember most was in a semi-tractor trailer hauling bulk milk. Coming off of a Interstate off ramp at night, waaay too fast, went to gear down, got all tangled up in the gears, a stop sign with a "T" ahead, I panicked and locked up the trailer brakes to stop ...... while I sorted out where I was gear wise.

The fellow behind me WAS NOT impressed with my trucker skills.......

I knew something was up. My car was never the same after we traded, that day.

I used to like CVTs or Dual Clutch trannies. However, they never gave the same sensation as a manual. My FRS is my first manual car. I was really planning on getting an Automatic, but that changed when I drove my friend's Si. I wanted that feeling, but even better! And I sure did get that with my FRS!!!
