Almost 300 miles on the car as of tonight, and yep, sounds like a bucket of crickets under the hood. Kind of makes a brand new car sound like a POS.

I've done a lot of driving in the last two days. Today at about mile 293 I heard the crickets and instantly recognized it as the same sound everyone is complaining about.

I just got home with about 340 miles on the car and it was chirping in the driveway as I finished backing in.

I noticed it started chirping at about 300 miles on it. I'm at 1200 now and it still does it. I mean, not only is it annoying, but I'm almost certain the car next to me with his/her windows open on a stoplight can hear the car chirp away as well. And I bet they are wondering the same thing as us, wth is making that sound under the hood.

Hopefully it's not normal and that there will be a fix for it soon....

I did notice the chirping when I first purchased it with 125 miles on it. And yes, it only started when the car was fully warmed up. But now, with 1200 miles on it, im not noticing it as much. Maybe im use to it? But its definitely not as loud as a lot of you people describe. I can't hear a single thing once its fully warmed up, with the windows up, and the radio on. Just a smooth rumble...

I'm worried about the same thing. I've been getting excellent reactions to my car but I'm really not looking forward to the first time I have to explain my crickets away with techno-babble about DI....

If everyone is witnessing the chirping noise then it must be normal

I'm not sure I have this cricket chirp going on.. But, while driving with windows down I get a squeak almost 20 seconds apart. Suspension compression, braking, nor turning replicate the sound. It has a strict cadence to it.

I would just like to hear if it is really normally and what 'exactly' it is. This kind of reminds me when I had my 2003.5 Mazdaspeed protege, and the blowoff sound made a 'Gobble Gobble' Turkey Noise instead of the standard 'Pfffft' noise. And no matter what piping or blowoff valve I would install, the same thing would happen.

OR

If this is not normal, I'd still like to know what it is and how to fix it. I have a Perrin pulley I'm itching to install on my 6AT, but am holding off for now. Dealer Reasons? Unless installing it may help things out and/or I know that when I install it, I can take whatever proof to the dealer what it is. I got the first BRZ from them, so it's not like they will have heard this before. I am going to swing by this week that I'm off to at least 'report' it to them.

I would force them to fix it. I can't deal with any kind of abnormal noises on a car. Besides, this sounds like the beginning of something going wrong inside the engine.
Nobody needs to force them to do anything. It's a new car @ month #1.
It is your "professional" opinion that it's the beginning of something in the engine going bad...

I mean this in a nice way.. You're a bit of a troll here.. I've seen your thoughts on the 86 & Z & gti in more than one thread now.

Feel free to continue to voice your opinion. It's a forum after all. Just show some class.

Has anyone tried:

1. Spraying some water with a spray bottle on the belt while it's running and making the noise?

2. Removing the belt altogether (after car is warmed up and making the noise) and running it briefly to see if it goes away?

It almost sounds like there might be a very slight belt/pulley misalignment

It's not coming from the belt.

Dunno about the dog... thinking of changing it because I've been PM'd about it twice. I just searched for funny wookiee pics

Wish I had the kind of income that would allow me to own a car like that... looooove the FRS completely though
