Great thanks. I'm optimistic that will help. Also bought the dust boot.

Alright well I added a washer that was about 2x the thickness and still the same issue; no difference.

What's interesting is if I'm going 6000 rpm or whatever (super rattle) and pull up on the "lever" or whatever it's called (to go into reverse) it goes away. This is at any RPM. If I pull the knob up it stops rattling... any ideas?

Still waiting for the dust cover to come in, but the bigger washer didn't help.

HELP!!!!

Is this a new kartboy or used one you bought off someone?

Brand new. I've opened it up and "reinstalled it" 6 times now or so. Only thing I can think of is the washer isn't big enough (new one is about 2x the size) or it's the dust cover)... or it's a faulty unit, or something else that I can't think of.

Well another thing that I tried was I took the reverse lockout plastic piece off and got some grease and smothered the metal rod with grease.

Take your shift knob off and drive, if it still rattles take the reverse lockout off and take it for a drive. See if it's one of those 2 things.

You're talking about the bottom black Kartboy piece and then the silver metal piece yeah [I'm new to most of this]? The most confounding thing to me is when I pull up the level the noise goes away. My reverse lockout part is metal I believe so your post confused me a bit. I've got as much grease as I can on the actual rod so far hah. I appreciate your input/help.

I'm talking about the black piece you actually lift to put into reverse. Take that off and drive, see if it still rattles.

Oh I see. Not sure how to get that off.

I've tried every other damn thing. Even drove with it all off basically and yeah still rattlin'. Kinda wanna throw the stock shifter on to see if it still happens to identify if it is in fact the new Kartboy or the dust cover that's missing. At this point I think there's something wrong with the unit as I've put 10+ hours into troubleshooting this thing.

Did you put the little rubber washers on that Kartboy supplies with these now?

I recently installed one and have a similar rattle in all even-numbered gears and assumed it was rattling against the reverse lockout plate. I had a rattle from the Kartboy SS on my bugeye and the "fix" was to dremel out a larger hole. It hasn't been loud enough to really bother me (especially when competing against intake, exhaust, and music).

You're not going to be able to remove the plastic reverse lockout piece on the Kartboy--this is part of the shifter.

I did not and wasn't sure what those were for.. I lost them, but I just remember they were small o-rings or were they rubber washers the size of the stock black one?. Do they go against the washer/pin? Yeah I didn't think you could take that off. Mine bothers the hell out of me unless I'm blasting death metal. Mine's in all gears. It's not really noticeable under 3000 rpm but it's definitely there. I have really good hearing =[

What is weird to me is when I pull up the lever the noise goes away. I'm positive I've installed everything correctly, besides ripping off the dust cover =/. I also bent the little "dust cover" that goes on the bottom of the shifter (from the stock one, probably from messing around with the whole assembly so much), which I can't for the life of me find a part # for but doubt it'd cause a metal rattle sound.

Check this thread: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=98475

I'm on the stock shifter and get inklings of rattle at 3.5k, it really starts to buzz at 5k+. I plan to replace the nylon bushings and rubber o-ring, possibly doubling the o-ring, and then greasing everything thoroughly.

I put in a steel washer that was twice as thick; might try adding an o-ring next. I added a 1lb shift knob to it and it actually helped quite a bit.

Where do these little rubber washers go that you speak of?

You actually can remove the plastic reverse lockout piece. There is a small pin near the top that you can tap out and then it just slides off. I did this and added some extra grease in there.
