Kartboy Shortshifter Buzzing

I got a Kartboy shortshifter and installed it and in every gear I get pretty severe buzzing (that I can hear). Anyone know what's going on? The only thing I "fucked up" on is that I ripped the "dust cover" under the shifter, which I'm not sure if is a serious issue or not - but I doubt that is causing the buzzing. Any ideas? It seems I installed everything pretty smooth.

Maybe something isn't tightened all the way/to spec? I'm not familiar with the shifter install, but it sounds like a loose nut or something that's vibrating enough for you to hear the "buzz".

As stated above, recheck everything. If not, you can always just sell it to me.

I rechecked twice so far. First tweaks helped but I still have the issue.

Kartboy Shortshifter Buzzing

(this was moved to "cosmetics" for some reason so I'm reposting it).

This will get moved as well. The buzz is the dust cover acting like a balloon when you let the air out.

At least it got moved to the proper spot this time. You really think that's it? What's the part called if anyone knows and where can I find it? It doesn't quite sound like what I'd imagine a "balloon" sound to sound like - it's more of a rattle like metal but there's nothing loose, I cranked everything. The sound occurs at any RPM and just gets more intense.

I'm talking this rubber part:

Think I found it:

Will order and try that out. Easy fix would be nice.

If you are talking about a metal vibrating noise when revving, this is normal with some of our transmissions.

I had the same thing. I have literally tried everything you can think of to get rid of it.

Only fix I found was I got a 1.5 pound shift knob and know it only slightly rattles at around 6-7k rpms.

Well it's only since I put the short shifter on. It rattles just driving down the road normally. I did just buy a 1lb shift knob... The buzzing goes away if I grab down below the shifter and kind of pull up on the rubber underneath the sleeve thing which I guess is worth mentioning... almost wanna put on the stock shifter and see if it still rattles (confirming it's the dust boot).

I had the same thing only after I installed my kartboy. I reinstalled the OEM one to see if it was just the shifter and the OEM shifter also had the same problem now. I don't know if its something I did or just an odd circumstance. I had researched this problem very in depth and iirc it is a known issue which Toyota issued a TSB for. Of course you would have to reinstall your OEM shifter for them to do anything.

I don't know what the rubber underneath the sleeve thing is so I can't help you there. Maybe if you were more specific or showed a picture.

Only tips I can give is make sure you still have the small washer between the cotter pin and the shifter linkage. Make sure the shifter is properly torqued and not over torqued.

Mine sounded like this

In that video they reference this post which I never came across but funny enough I actually did the same thing.

Final Edit: Found the link to the TSB in regards to shifter rattle.

I probably over torqued it a bit though don't think that's it - I muscled it as hard as I could. What a bummer you have it even with the stock shifter now.. that's weird. I did get the washer back in which I'm glad for since I dropped it and couldn't find it forever.

Mine sounds more or less the same. My 36 month expires like tomorrow or something =[ Make that 3 days ago actually.

Try the larger washer trick. That pretty much eliminated the problem for me.

Larger washer trick? Can you please explain. I'm guessing it's something like "use a larger washer".
