FWIW, the exhaust sticks out more than it's supposed to as the muffler is different too. According to the following post, the shop wouldn't install it for him because it's not a proper fit.

What do you mean? The jdm and usdm mufflers appear o be the same. The only difference are the muffler tips.

I don't think the mufflers are the same (they have different part numbers), and when you put these tips on a USDM car, they seem to stick out further and don't appear to have the same angle upwards either. It's hard because there aren't many exact pictures out there, but it seems like on the original cars the curved part on the tip sits about flush with the bumper, so it sticks out maybe 1/2" from the top of the cutout, while on USDM cars with the tips, they sit out about an extra 3/4" to 1". Possibly anyway, like I say, it's hard to tell from pics sometimes.

I have a set waiting to go onto a car, but the car isn't in yet, so I'll look closer at it when it arrives this week. I have a feeling that modifying the muffler slightly can make the tips look quite a bit nicer on the USDM muffler.

Maybe that's what Tada meant when he said the usdm model has an extra 3hp.

here are some jdm tips on the jdm brz model. it's still difficult to tell the difference. the jdm model looks to have a slightly shorter muffler pipe.

@sportsguy83, did you make sure to push the tips all the way in before tightening the nut?

The base model 86 has a different muffler. It's not just the tips. The blog article I posted was someone who tried to put the muffler tips on a lower spec 86, but was told that it doesn't fit properly; the tips stick out more if you put them on the lower trim muffler. Not much, but enough that the dealer wouldn't put them on, even if it fit.

Its very probable they do stick out farther than on the JDM car. but really... you can install them by yourself, no need to go and get them "installed". It can't be easier to remove a 10mm bolt remove and replace. (I know that you are just posting information on someone else's experience but just so that everybody knows, no need to have them installed you can do it easily).

I agree with you that the direction the tips are pointing is not the same as the JDM version. Of course, you need to take a really good hard look as in getting on the floor and looking in to notice it, so I am not too concerned about it. I agree definitely I could go to a muffler shop to get them to look more like they do on the JDM car and pointing perfectly.

I did not check too much into it. I just tightened the bolt at the exact location the USDM tips where located. I am PRETTY sure that there is more space for me to push back the tips to make them more flush inside the bumper, the only difference will be that the bolt will be held at a different position than originally. But the bolt is not screwed into the exhaust or anything like that, it just presses into the pipe so moving the tips farther in and tightening the bolt at a different location is not doing anything different, its going to be the same procedure just farther down in the pipe.

Also, I have to look at them again, but I had no problem with how far they are sticking out right now. They look really good as is.

The JDM Exhaust tips diameter is the same as the bore and stroke, 86 mm!
