It almost sounds like the tick of an exhaust shield or similar. That you notice it mostly in first makes sense. That's where the driveline twists the most.

I would put it up on stands and while lying underneath it, jiggle the front pipe. It might lead to more inspection but...

Worth a shot.

I'll give it a try. The noise doesn't seem to happen going over bumps or potholes so I ruled out anything with suspension.

As far as mostly noticing it more often in first it could also be that in higher gears the RPM is so high I don't hear it over the noise.

I haven't had a chance to lift the car yet (probably will do it today), but I've noticed from more driving that I can make the noise happen reliably if I hold the car at a rock steady RPM for about 4+ seconds and then left off the gas pedal. If I hold it at 4k RPM and let off the gas in 2nd gear it happens nearly every time. If I just rev up to 4k RPM and then let off the gas immediately it usually doesn't happen. Something about holding it there for a few seconds first makes it worse.

Had it up on stands today and shook the front mid and back pipes, no noises.

Sorry, Trem. I have nothing. Maybe look at driveline mounts; anything that reacts against engine torque.

It could just be my ears playing tricks but I could swear it's coming from the rear of the car not the front.

Like maybe a spindle ticking in the hub? Loose spindle nut?

I get some ticking from my brake calipers but it's not such a sharp almost glassy sound like in your recording; which is pretty good, btw.
