Learn from your mistake and move on after the dealer fixes it. Compensation, lol.
I made the mistake when I bought mine last month. I test drove the car, but assuming I was buying a new car, I didn't do a thorough walk-through of the car. The next morning I noticed that the pass side front bumper wasn't shiny. When I took a closer look, it was obviously repaired previously and the paint wasn't buffed to blend in. Then they made a half assed attempt to fix it.

I agree with most here. Sorry it happened, surely they'll fix it for free.

Dealership should be able to get the part/parts necessary in an overnight shipment. If they did not offer that, then I'd be upset somewhat. In that respect, then the parts manager of that Dealership would be the one to talk with, and of course in a very pleasant and nice manner on your part....and in person if possible.

Did you attempt to follow it up with the dealer?

Told them about it and they tried to fix it. Whomever buffed it from the body shop just did a portion of it. Also they didn't give me my Car Care package from the Toyoguard Elite. Actually pretty bad experience overall.

As I was looking at the car at the dealership, among the first things I did was open the hood. If anything on the car didn't open, close, turn, shift, or otherwise do what it was supposed to, I'd have known it before I drove it off the lot.

I did notice a few days after I took it home that the dealership had chipped the paint on the fuel door opening. I figure they did it when they fueled it.

Wife commented that the paint was surely messed up, I calmly get out of the car and the front looks like it exploded: $9K damage, 8 weeks in shop, driving a damned Nissan Rogue loaner.

While I have always advocated for giving a new vehicle a quick 'break in scratch' to ward off true misfortune, when I finally got the car of my dreams I nearly totaled it at 10 mph and then was without for months.

Yup, this was all my doing, and after 26 years driving mostly motorcycles, I chalked it up to 'learning'. But at the end of the day, shit happens, and while this sucks and is not your fault, it is relatively minor compared to the joy this car will give you (and some of the true crap that happens out there).

Took me a while to get over my shame, but to this day I am meh about the accident. Its over and done, it sucked, but every time I get into my car and fire her up, I grin like its the first time.

Get off your computer, jump in the car and focus on the parts that make you smile. Hopefully it will be a long time before you have to go back to the dealer (and hopefully never have to drive a Nissan Rogue for weeks, that was the worst) and the rest of the time you just drive and grin, drive and grin.

PS: I do not advocate testing out what those buttons next to the gear shifter do in the first few weeks of ownership, at least not when there is a guard rail nearby!

Good luck and enjoy your car!

I have a sorta similar story... The 86 gods cursed me for trading in my FRS for a pickup, and before my brand new truck even had license plates on it yet, an insane hail storm destroyed the truck as I watched from a store window. After waiting forever for a shop to work on it, because the insurance company wouldn't total it, the shop actually did even more damage to it with total newb employees. I drove around a rental Ford Fusion for months. I finally got sick of it and got rid of that truck for another one.

It was a sign from the 86 gods, and thus I will be looking for another 86 twin in the near future, in addition to my not-yet-hail-destroyed truck.

Hmm broken part on new car that was obviously done by someone at the deal, probably by mistake. Warranty? This isn't a warranty issue, they did disclose the damage to you. Just call Toyota if there's no quick resolution.

Doesn't matter how it happened it is still warranty from the buyer's perspective. Can't even say that it happened at the dealer since it could have been at port or even on the line where it got squished. Doesn't say much for the dealer's PDI process if it did happen before they got it but that is a different scenario altogether.

I'm with the OP. I would be pissed. Especially with a new car. They will fix it at no charge with the assumption that it was that way before you picked it up.

Personally .... I would speak to the guy that sold the car to you and request an additional free service or maybe a $100 gas card. You're not going to get $, but you should get something for YOUR time and for the dealership to save face.

I think what most people don't realize is that there is a large percentage of big ticket items (cars, furniture, houses) that have defects in them caused by shipping/handling/assembly/etc that all get fixed before it gets to you. A hood latch, as in this case, really is no big deal and as long as it is fixed the seller has done their compensation to you.

Furniture dealers make artwork out of fixing stuff like this. There are entire processes around it everywhere from manufacturing plant to delivery. They can make very deep imperfections go away and you cannot tell they are there.

Same with homes. Anyone who has ever bought a new (just contstructed) home knows there are going to be things that have to be fixed afterwards that are someone's mistake. A couple I've had, one house had an outside light fixture that would turn on every time you used the light in the hallway half bath. Took us several weeks to figure that one out. Another (different house) was an outside AC unit that was never wired up. We didn't discover it for 6 months because we moved into the house in December and didn't run the AC until late May. All were mistakes and all got fixed under warranty.

@Dad. That is true, but it is the business' that pay attention to all the small details that do best in today's world. The cars are all the same. It's the service that separates these dealerships.

I agree but they should offer some form of compensation if they feel they have wronged a customer. If they do not feel they wronged them then why offer? It is the perceived sense of entitlement to compensation that bugs me in this case (although I get OP is just pissed off at this point and may just be lashing out). I would be pissed as well and if they offered me something they would have a slightly happier customer. I would not ever dream that they owed me something and doubt I would even make the hint they should give me anything much less ask outright. That is just me though.
We have only heard one side of the story as well. Everybody is always prepared to go on a with hunt against car dealers when they are really just a business like any other. People seem to feel that since cars are expensive then dealers make piles of money and should just give things away. That is not the case with many. Even if they do make loads of money there is still no reason for them to give things away. How many people here volunteer for work and refuse any raises or bonuses? How long would you work for a place that every time somebody made an error you had to take money out of your pocket and give it a way?

It is quite strange because at the port they would have to pop the hood to pass the inspection check list. Unless someone was not doing their job...
