Why oh why does everybody want to resurrect this thread with things that have already been said 20 times!
I will also repeat something though (Yes I hold myself to a double standard) Take a look at the OP's location (if they have a real place listed) before you give advice on financing. I know that everybody is just trying to help but Americans giving Canadians (as in this case), Australians or Europeans financial advice is not only useless it can be downright confusing. Our banking systems, interest rates, credit agreements, etc are NOT the same. |

Hahahaha gonna get hate for this bump but I just noticed this as I was searching for new wheels for "my" fr-s. oh how 3 years have really gone by. Yes, I did purchase an frs(still financing), 3 years to go and got prime interest rate with my dad as a co-signer. My savings haven't depleted, I work a steady job with good pay (only working 4 days/week) while still attending university, have a social life and gf and still earning savings without the help of my parents anymore. I came on here 3 years ago to ask if I was going to get "qualified", and almost all replies were about "you should not do it". Thanks for the advice LOL

This car was the biggest financial mistake I've ever made. While my payments are easy, insurance is easy, it sure adds up at the end of the year when I look at it and say "damn, that's a good chunk of change that would be better off in an RRSP"

On the bright side, I went back through this thread and realized I constrained myself to only one post. That has to be some type of record for me on what is basically a "will the dealer let me go into debt" thread.

Get a used lowest mileage, and cheapest.
That $7000 probably is 25-40% of a used car price. So it bring down your monthly payment. |

Scion dealerships will find a way to finance any poor debt-burdened student with a decent job (speaking from experience). You won't get a good interest rate, but you'll get a shiny new car!
On the bright side, you can always re-finance 6 months later for a (sometimes significantly) reduced interest rate.Toyota wasn't as willing to lend out 12+% interest rate loans.. so guess alot of students are out of luck now. Or rather, they're better off! |
