Yeah, lame.

Haha, my fault for not actually planning out what cleaning supplies to get

I'll just order one off ebay I guess. Free/fast shipping there compared to Amazon at least.

I meant at local brick and mortar stores.
I know what you meant, just saying there are other options to get just a clay bar.

Probably should've gone with the kit instead, unless I can just use any clay bar and the quik detailer stuff as lubricant.

Monument Auto Parts has a Meguiar's blue clay bar (a little more aggressive than their regular OTS consumer grade white bar). Also be mindful that the more aggressive the clay bar, the higher the chances of marring the paint, which would then have to be corrected.

I'm using the blue bar now, and it picks up a TON of contamination.

Ordered a cheap set of PDR rods and tap down hammer/head to test out on the dings/dents on the Yaris. Won't be used on the FR-S for the next two years since I still have two years of my Tire and Wheel plan.

Yeahhh, that's a biiit far for me just for a bar, haha.

Good tip, though. I was wondering which grade would be right to get. I'll see if I can find Meguiar's. Otherwise it looks like Chemical Guys and..uhh.. Simoniz have bars being sold individually on Ebay too. So might just go with one of those.

I have no clue where their stores are at, I'm just glad they have one here in Vallejo. I'm actually going to go there tomorrow in the middle of running errands to pick up some more Meguiar's foam applicator pads to get ready to do a full detail on the Yaris.

CG is good stuff, but I feel like they formulate their products to work with their products only. I used their QD once, and it seemed to have degraded the Collinite 476s wax I applied a week or two prior. So imo, it's either all CG products or none.

If you get it, just make sure you're very generous with the QD to lube the area.

Just to get people excited about detailing their cars, I'm going to spam a bit of some that I've done:

Before anything:

After wash, clay, Ult Cmpd, and wax (everything by hand):

After Ultimate Compound on the left half, before UC on the right half (original white was restored):

Oh, thought you were talking about a single location at first and I noticed it was in the easy bay compared to where I am in San Jose

Ah.. maybe I won't go with CG then since I already got the Meguiars QD. I'm just hesitant to go cheap with the no-name random ones.

Hmm.. if the issues I have today are just a few teeny lines, is it really worth getting the really good, pricier stuff like this? Also saw that for the most part clays can only be used once. So seems like a lot for not much to detail.

I have an unused claybar right now that you can have if you are trying to get something urgently.

It's this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00G3EAGO2...ing=UTF8&psc=1

Dang, hope I'm not coming off as desperate! haha.

Nah, it's not urgent. I just tried cleaning off the poop/bug splatter and thought "aw man the quick detailer might not be able to get this out".

I can probably wait until I actually wash the car. Probably in the next couple of weeks.

If the car is filthy like that FX16 I detailed, then yes, the clay bar should only be used once. If it's a newer car, I'd just constantly tear off and toss contaminated portions of the clay.

The thing is, you may think you paint is contaminant-free, but a good clay bar will make the paint surface silky smooth. The owner of that FX16 placed a soda cup on his roof, and it slid down the roof. I would not go with a no-name clay bar. Probably won't pick up much, and will most likely scratch your clear coat/paint.

A good prep leads to a good detail results (just like in painting).

btw, if you're new to detailing, I do not recommend Collinite 476s. It's an extremely great wax, being very durable and offers a natural gloss (unlike Meguiar's NXT 2.0 wax). However, it's a huge PITA to apply and buff off correctly.

If you think your case was tough, take a look at this:

I am NEVER driving on the 505 ever again at night. You can smell how disgusting this was standing next to the car.

I foamed the car down and let it sit for like 10 minutes. Hosed it down with the head set to "jet" and me being at a distance since I didn't want any splashing on me. It got rid of most of the bug bodies. My wash mitt was able to remove all but a few bug juices (I was gagging the entire time).

Since it was a rental car, I did not clay bar or wax it.
