I know that a 305hp car with a 6 speed transmission can go faster than that. So I think this is a similar case for the BRZ. Run a performance tire with a better speed rating, and the cars capabilities will be pushed closer to what physics and the engine allow the car to do.

The driveshafts are also not balanced for that speed. There have also been reports of owners bypassing the limiter and having thier driveshafts grenade and having thier warranties voided because of it.

I said since month that the official top speed is much too low!
The good aerodynamics and 200hp just does not fit to the top speed value.

My BMW 323ti has a drag coefficient of 0.34 and a quite similar frontal area to the Toyobaru.
The Toyoabura has an drag coefficient of 0.27.

Frontal area x drag coefficient = aerodynamic drag:
0,67 for BMW 323ti
0,5158 for Toyobaru

My BMW runs 230 km/h (143 mph) with just 170 hp and 240 km/h (149 mph) after tuning with 208 hp / 216 hp (official in documents / results from the dynamometer).

So why should I expect the Toyobaru to go only 230 km/h (143 mph) - with 200 hp???

They're 87W's, which means 168mph.

Verified on my FR-S as well.

"Chauntalei" beat me to it because I had to go get a flashlight to read the number in the garage. Doggone old age can't read in the dark anymore...

Yeah, I've read up on that as well. Totally bizarre.

Really? Damn, that's pretty impressive for being a JDM model sport Prius tire! I have no idea what could cause such an unusual top speed then. Wonder when we can find an answer? Quite a few performance cars been around lately with weird top speeds. I remember when the G8 GT came out it had a top speed somewhere in the 130mph range. Pretty weird for a 6.0L LS2 V8 granted it's a 4 door sedan. Gotta be some explaination.

Not really? I think a lot of luxury cars use it, and they typically have enough power to hit 150-160 just fine.

It's the gears probably, 5th tops out at 130something while 6th runs out of breath. 6th might be able to push a little higher but maybe not, so they say it's 138. 6th will top out in the high 160s, which may or may not be possible.

Eh, when you consider the fact that the tires are $200+ each, I expect that kind of performance out of them.

Interesting, could it be due to the low torque maybe? I'm just speculating off the cuff, I haven't looked up the 323's torque rating so I'm probably way off the mark.

They're supposed to be comfortable, quiet, and sort of grippy, that's what summer touring means right?

Torque doesn't matter, it's where the next gear lands you in the powerband.

Please....would people stop calling it "electronically" limited to 138mph when it is not. Do you understand what "electronically limited" means?

Probably not. We should start calling it "ECU limited" for those who can't comprehend.
