BRZ top speed

Well I found out last night the car is limited to 138 MPH according to the digital speedo. I still have to verify this with GPS. Now the question is how do I get the limiter removed?

Jidonsu 06-28-2012 09:15 PM

Where in CT did you get up to that speed?

Note: I'm in CT as well.

An undisclosed ractrack of course. So the people that will no doubt want to say its stupid and dangerous and all other kinds of high horse talk will know it was on an undisclosed racetrack.

Isn't it aerodynamically limited? Also if you start the route recorder on the gps it will keep track of your top speed.

Mazdaspeed 06-28-2012 09:28 PM

You're probably just aero limited, 138mph is a pretty weird speed to set for an electronic limiter.

velocity 06-28-2012 09:35 PM

Very close to the 143mph I see reported.

feldy 06-28-2012 09:35 PM

There was a dyno run on these forums showing the car tops out at 170 something. Not sure where that link is...

Dead on 220km/h so I wouldn't think so.

velocity 06-28-2012 09:39 PM

This guy got it up to 235km/h (146mph)

That's without wind drag though, won't happen real world on a stock 86.

No air resistance = that top speed.

Exactly... 200 hp isn't nearly enough for any modern production car to come anywhere close to 170 mph, because aerodynamics at higher speeds plays a significant role, hence why a car like the 2013 GT500 with 662 hp have a claimed 200 mph top speed while struggling to hit it in third-party tests (as Motor Trend tried to do it but only managed 196 mph). It contrasts to less powerful but more aerodynamic cars not being far behind, like the Z06, which manages 199 mph with 505 hp. Even the original 480 hp GT-R managed 195 mph when tested by Motor Trend.
