In wording in your initial thread you did very well describing when the noise is heard.

It does sound like the noise is heard any time the engine is shaking slightly against it's motor mounts. That would happen at higher idle when engine is cold, also when a load is put on engine as when a/c compressor cycles on, or even when alternator is working hard.

That aluminum skid plate is, in places, mounted very close to heat shields on various exhaust parts, front and sides of engine. Even a slight bend in aluminum can cause a rattle. Other possibility is rock or debris between aluminum plate and other engine related parts...notably exhaust.

Dealer called back and said the injector noise is normal...after politely explaining its not the injector noise I am concerned with they called back again to say the tech has no concerns... I will take the skid plate off when I get home and try again.

To me it has a very deff metal on metal sound like something is vibrating against another metal object that is very firmly in place.

Edit: To further elaborate on what I was trying to say. Does not sound like any knock I have ever heard and more of a clearance issue with mechanical parts Ie exhaust on framework.

I think all this work of removing skid plate can just wait till spring really comes.

Currently you are on the left edge of a winter storm...not going away immediately.

Can this just wait till end of April or beginning of May ?...even though I understand it's currently a real annoyance...not knowing for sure.

That cover (not a skid plate) isn't very stiff. While it's making the noise, reach in with a broomstick and push down on the cover a little. Does it change anything?

Great suggestion. Haven't taken the plate off yet so will see if I can maybe get some leverage on it. just odd that when the car heats up it goes away. You would think with the metals expanding it would potentially get worse. Im not against crawling around in the mud and snow to get the plate off but if we can determine that's all it is without doing that it would be great.

The thought just popped into my head earlier today. I think you might even feel if there's something rubbing down there. Worth a shot.

So there is not anything rattling or rubbing with any of the skid plates. We picked up from the dealer as they said the noise was completely normal and just the injectors. They went as far as saying the new 17's are identical....Though my 17 doesn't make this noise lol. Dropped off car to a dealer 45 minutes out of town who called back this evening to say they have narrowed it down to a fuel pump on the block or something? also said there was a TSB for it. I am a little bit sceptical of that but we shall see.

Are you sure that is not the passenger side vacuum pump noise that someone else posted about around here?

Update:

Parts replaced so far: Engine cooling fan, High pressure fuel pump and related components as per tsb.
Additionally oil leaks were discovered at the cam plate cover, cam carriers both passenger and driver side( engine dropped for this).

Picked up from dealer (visit number 3) and the noise is still there. So I went to the start and tried diagnosing again. Originally the noise did not stop when the clutch pedal was pressed or it did but we were unable to hear it with noise that was coming from a warped fan blade hitting the surround. So the rattle noise no longer exists if the clutch is pressed...so would this suggest a tob? or something else.

Throw out bearing is actually in use (spinning, using it's bearings) when the clutch pedal is pressed. If the throw out bearing were bad, this is when you'd hear it.

And with the pedal depressed, clutch is released, and transmission input shaft should stop moving....so there would be less vibration going through the rear of the transmission, less vibration on transmission rear mounts and driveshaft, etc.

So answer: something else.
