Yea, I can see the cars with Perf Pkg being CS, but not the standard ones. I guess we'll see, even though I don't really care that much. This is why I drive in STX

In most cases, classing is done with the "best of breed" approach (you have to get the best performance package of a car to be competitive in class). Like the BRZ had to compete against FRS with TRD suspension.

Unfortunately, I do not think they will split the 2017 cars like the 2013-16 cars ( which I think was done to add some life to the spec WRX DS class). And it probably will ( that's where I am going).

If your car does not have TRD parts it should be DS. Curious how the new gearing will work in the stock class, it tops out at 57mph in 2nd.

What gen was your STR Miata? The ND's look like a ton of fun in STR.
I had an early NC, was a fun car buy not very convenient for a daily (being 6'4") and not really class competitive.

The short 2nd gear will be interesting. Hopefully having to shift (or not shift) doesn't slow me down too much, but I think it'll be a fun challenge either way.

I do hope the 2017 stays in DS though, the performance package with the 7.5" wheels isn't available on the Toyota as far as I can tell, think it's just a Subaru thing. If they are gonna split TRD and non TRD I think it'd be kind of weird of them to let the upgraded 2017 sit in the same class as standard, but who knows. I'm not trophying in nats this year anyway so it really doesn't effect me all that much.

Why the exodus from cs? We can lower our cars and still stay in a street class. No other cars can do that. Who wants to look at ugly wheel gap on their daily? Are you one of the three that will place at nats? No? Then stay and make it fun for those of us who are staying!

Who wants to be 1-3 seconds behind the top spots at nats? Not most of us.

Most of us are 1-3 seconds behind the top spots at nats regardless of car or class.

I'm sticking around in CS for next year. Few reasons:

1) Kinda like it lowered. Hell, I'm driving through the snow like this.
2) Kinda lazy.
3) Don't think our chances in DS are really that much better than in CS, with the exception of the Subarus, whom have no choice. DS has been re-populated in a very haphazard fashion, and you're thinking that with all of those new entries that somehow a twin is hands-down the car to have. I expect that DS will be a clusterf**k of butt-hurt next year from anyone who thought getting moved there fixes their problems.
4) Been relying too much on the car to keep me up front. I could use a season to just work on driving. Bringing a knife to a gunfight and trying to win anyway helps me with that for some reason or another. I probably won't get all the way to winning, but the list of people beating me at the end of the season will be shorter than the list at the start.
5) No one locally has an ND.

I'm staying in CS too... for now... for most of the reasons you mentioned, mainly #1&2.

I have several fast NDs in my region, but if I feel the itch to be competitive back again, I'll find another car to codrive.

Looks like the FR-S still has it, appears to have brought home the victory at Florida prosolo despite giving up about 0.2 per side on the 60' times to the ND!

I knew someone would say that when I decided to run them.

BFG offered contingency for the Pro. Bridgestone didn't.

Awesome job! I'm glad there are more who stayed to try to make the NDs work for it in CS... I just saw a few videos of the course and didn't think it was too favorable to our cars vs. the NDs. It looks like the ND still has that crazy advantage in the 60' too.

I don't blame you for picking BFG for Pros, it's why I ran the Kumhos at the Pros last year. Keep up the good driving. Do you plan on any other national events?

Thanks. Dixie is next. (I try to make that event every year)

FWIW, I think part of the 60ft gap was the tires. I ran the Rival S (1.0) on my STU 350Z and noticed they didn't launch or brake as well as the Stones. Their strength was in lateral grip and allowable slip-angle. The 1.5's still have the lateral grip and have closed the gap on transitions vs the Stones.

I was able to stay in the top of the tach with second gear on that course and only spent a little time on the limiter. That had to put the ND's in a tight spot with their gearing.

They probably had an advantage in the transitions, and they seem to have put some time on me at launch, but rowing the gears can be a real PITA and I think that's where they were stuck.

A little OT but another data point for people considering removing the TRD parts:

I drove a well-prepped DS FR-S on our local test and tune track and paxed my TRD car with a single run. Not by much, but I did 6 runs in my car before the DS run. Me vs Me, I can't cover the DS pax with my CS twin.
