It sounds like the chirp is the result of the insulation and metal components in the DI pump area acting like a high-pass filter, so that we only hear the highest pitch of the tapping.

I am not a skilled diagnostician, so take this with a grain of salt. Maybe someone with better ears will go poke around in this specific area.
I'm glad someone took the time to scope this sound...

I started the car up a few minutes after coming home and I noticed the chirp noise is definitely there from the start but goes away within 15-30 seconds and all I hear is the sound of the belts (more of a squeaky noise than the chirp).

Stupid cricket sound.....
Not necessarily... The work with corporate engineers. They wanted to eliminate this as the source of the problem.

Got a different kind of chirp today. We've identified that the A/C compressor clutch kicks on and off a lot, but my car with 1300 miles on it just started chirping when the compressor clutch engages and the car is under load (in gear, 3-4k RPM).

It's driving me crazy because the compressor cycles every 5 seconds at times. I know it's something to do with the A/C because the sound went away when I turned the A/C off.

I have had a bucket of fish bait hanging out under my hood at idle from day 1 with less than 20 miles on the car. Only time I hear it is when I am idling next to something for it to reflect the noise back to me, and the audible noise goes away with any increase in RPM.

My engine makes noises... and the car vibrates sometimes. The noises get louder as I increase the throttle and RPM's. Also, the vibrations go up in the same way.... Should I take it to the dealer and get it cheeked out?

Ladies and gentlemen, take a deep breath... Some people are trying too hard to find something wrong in the car and are reporting things that are normal (vibrations, sounds). I am of the group that thinks that for example, the cricket noise is an unintended consequence of the DI, not anything that will affect reliability, driveability, longevity of this car. (I might be wrong, but that's what I am sensing from all of these threads)

In the age we live in right now, car manufacturers spend a LOT of R&D time and money, trying to make the ride as smooth as possible, removing the "feel" from the drive (removing the noises and vibrations away from the driver). THIS car that we bought is a sportscar. It was designed and intended to let the driver know and feel those sounds and vibrations, and that is a good thing.

NOW, this car is not perfect nor are the companies that made it so obviously, some cars will have defects and warranty repairs will be made. I am by no means trying to say that all cars are perfect and have no problems.

But please STOP trying so hard to find all of those defects and enjoy the damn car. When REAL issues arise, take it to the dealer and get it taken care of.

FR-S and BRZ have both been verified by the techs that worked and designed the engine that the cricket chirps is not intentional and something is wrong.

On another note, CU2MIKE was cleaning my car and a cricket literally jumped out of the soap and died - I would have been ecstatic and cracking up if that was the chirping noise rofl!

So what is the decision on this, should i go to the dealer and say something, or just sit back and wait for a recall? I definitely don't want the car to be experimented on especially when my only problem is a noise that I have no idea if it's even causing me problems. The car runs great, and sounds amazing.

I'm planning on waitin a bit 'till I hear some nice results on the forums - I don't drive as often as other people (I won't drive to work/school bc parking is $) and I can just skateboard everyday for free.
Plus gas is stupid expensive over at Santa Barbara.

Since she isn't used much nor too hard I'll sit back for a bit ..
The proper means of dealing with the engine has not been identified.
I will be taking it in for the rattling noises soon enough though.

Exactly, im seeing people going in to get things fixed and so far it seems like the techs have screwed up the cars or have just been wasting our times. I can live with a chirp as long as its not detrimental for me..

Sorry about gas where you are at bud, i just got premium for 3.19 today so im happy

Man, I filled gas at 3.79 and that was 'cheap' back in Orange County; SB borders 3.99 as cheap.

But yeah - waiting it out seems like the better choice, although you can pray to get lucky like Whiteout FRS and get a brand new FRS replacement in place of the older FRS!
Yeah, I'm super jealous, I want to start fresh after what happened to mine, ugh.

Can you point me in the direction of that Official word, not from a tech at the dealer, but from the Engineers who designed the engine? Not trying to be a smarta$$, just genuinely asking.

Techs at dealers can be trusted similar to salesman. They feed a bunch of crap to customers. When I read an official word from Subaru or Toyota, then its different.

Now go back to my post. As I said, neither the companies or the car are perfect. There will be cars that will have issues. I am just saying, some people are complaining about some silly stuff, just because it is the first time they hear it.

Now go back to my post one more time. I said when REAL problems arise, warranty work will be done. So, when this "Issue" is REAL, and a recall happens, I will gladly take my car to the dealer and get it fixed. At this moment, I will not worry about it and enjoy my car which is working great.
