Yeah, you could make them cheaper, but could you do them in batches, box them up nicely with instructions and all the extras, and still make a profit for much less than that? It adds up pretty fast.

As someone that says "I could make that for a lot less" rather a lot (I'm learning as I age!) I'm skeptical, though limiting its use to just this platform could help the cost a bit.

I've done custom car parts for folks in the past, and I barely broke even (I still have the two I made for locals I 'could trust' that never got picked up or paid for... so the loss goes against any profit I might have made...) People just didn't want to pay, even though no one else did anything close.

Of course, I've already gone through a few mental design iterations to make it even better for how I'd use it... maybe I do need a headrest camera mount... hah. I'd need another gopro though.

edit: I'd be making it so it's not clamp-on, but slide-on. I flip my headrest when I AutoX (much better fit/comfort with the helmet)
Maybe I should word it this way... I could make something of equal usefulness that fills the same role for less. Their "no tools required" approach is adding a lot of cost. Along with the telescoping end, anodization, etcetc. Especially for a "stealth"setup for a dashcam that fits a single chassis, all this would be unnecessary. Anyone with a hacksaw and a drill could make something similar. Like Steve said, some guys make these out of PVC. Depends on how fancy and how"high quality" you want it to be. Steve got the Ferrari of camera mounts

A 3ft length of 1/2 square aluminum is 5.54$+shipping from McMaster Carr. Some nuts and bolts a couple bucks. Drill bit, bout $5. Probably an hour of work

What the hell why is apple deleting the caps lock and 0 key for an emoji key and a fucking 10 key? Are they that daft to think that people can't put a 1 and 0 to make a 10? #courag

They're having a contest to see how user unfriendly they can make their products and still have fanboys try to rationalize and excuse their decisions as good ideas.

As I said, if you're building a one-off... yeah. And that's a solid approach. Do it!

Though as I said, I flip the headrest so tool-less would be important. So I have to get some thumb-screws if I do the 2-pc. I wouldn't though, I'd probably get 1x2cm, drill through to fit the headrest posts with a little wiggle room, counter-sink top/bottom to fit an o-ring that's snug on the posts, cut 2x2 caps to hold the o-ring, drill, tap, and countersink to secure the caps... so mine might end up being $20, but would slide snugly over the headrest posts, not rattle, and...

Of course, I have a few tools most people don't (no mill though)... I think most people would shy away from tapping, for example. I hate doing that by hand.

Alas, I can't anodize at home. Yet...

Half the fun is designing it and building it.

Oh, and I get to pay tax on McMaster purchases... but I can stop by to pick it up and avoid shipping if needed.

Calipers? As in... the part that connects the two bars together?

Have you try typing on the new Macbook Pro?

They might as well go big and do absolute zero key travel or go home.

Hell, that's when I usually shift.. which is where the dip ends... Maybe that's why I don't feel the dip that people complain about :o

Only noticed it when I was trying to power out of 180 turns in auto-x.

You won't feel the dip at partial throttle anyway.

One of the reasons why I never understand the complaints about the dip during daily driving. Then when you tell them to just downshift and ride in the higher RPMs above the dip, they complain they shouldn't have to drive it that "hard" during their commute... If you're not driving like that to begin with... you don't feel the dip anyway... So wtf are you complaining for?
