wow this is just as epic as the Nissan GT-R and Porsche record at the Nürburgring circuit when Nissan used Pilot Sport Cup instead of the stock Dunlops.

They are both good cars just pick your poison.

Folks, you shouldn't pay attention to mag times for a number of reasons.
  1. Car mags can be biased, I've noticed, to who's wetting their whistle with ad dollars.
  2. Driver makes the most difference in any race or comparison. These cars are driven by reporters? Unnamed testers?
  3. The cars are being evaluated for 10/10ths performance. Some of you will see the track, but the majority of sports car owners never do. And among those, most never and shouldn't see these limits on the street.
  4. Tires do make a huge difference. So do a number of other factors, like weather, time of day, etc.
  5. Nothing, not even lap times, can tell you whether you should buy a car. Drive them all and buy what you like. We only go around once in life.

You can ignore the printed comments of the test drivers if you wish, in my opinion the BRZ is faster on equal spec rubber.
All that shows us is that better tires make a car faster. What kind of tires do you get for a tank of gas? I'm not ignoring the comments i'm just confused as to why petiole make it sound like having great tires is a bad thing. Faster isn't a matter of opinion so I don't even know what to say about that last part. Either way, that was the v6 and we're talking about the gt so...

The GT is probably faster then the V6. The racer comments in the article stated that the Mustangs sloppy live rear axle was the limiting factor somewhat made up for by race-spec tires.

Here's how to get new max performance summer tires for free or close to it. A set of Sumitomo HTRZIII is around $450 shipped from TireRack in FT86 sizes. These tires are extremely well reviewed and tested. When you are making your deal with the dealer for the car, get a free mount/balance of the tire swap included in the agreement. Then sell the OEM rubber on Craigslist for 1/2 of list price or $400. I did a version of this and it works out great, although mine included new wheels and required no deal with the dealer since I knew I wanted my stock wheels for winter tires.

You are right, faster is not a matter of opinion, you are the one who is having trouble accepting the tremendous difference in tires as the reason for the lap times. If I can find the post with the 3 second differential from tire swap only, I'll link to it.

Here is why I think you are an idiot: those tires have a 300 tread wear while the stock tires have a 240 tread wear. I don't think downgrading your tires is going to make the car any faster

I think that's a valid criticism. When I cross shopped, I liked my 370z over the Mustang and Camaro because it felt tighter, smaller. The FRS feels even smaller. Now that I'm looking to replace my daily driver, the bulk is actually appealing to me.

Not saying that they are better than stock, cause I have never used those in particular. But you do know that a tread wear rating from one manufacture has nothing to do with the tread wear rating from another right? 200 UTQG from Kuhmo might be slicker than 200 UTQG from Hankook. Just because they have said number, does not mean they are worse or better than another brand at the same numbers.

I actually hadn't noticed how big our '05 Mustang (yes, I realize the '05 is not a '13, but they are about the same size) once until I hadn't driven it in about 6 weeks and 3K miles into driving the FR-S. Suddenly it felt huge. I couldn't believe the difference.

I would imagine if I went and drove a '12 Camaro now I would think I was in an M1 tank!

It looks like an M1 Tank! I wouldn't mind those cars in the least bit. They are just a tad BIG for me as well. There will be plenty of time for purchasing HUGE cars, when I'm 60-70+yrs old that is (so I can protect my brittle bones more..lol).

There's a few guys on here that would argue about you needing the larger car as you get older, since they all bought the 86.

I was within a hare's breath of buying a Camaro (probably a ZL1, but was looking at the other end of the Camaro spectrum too) but decided to go with the FR-S instead. I like both sports and muscle cars so I would have been happy with either but I know I made the right choice for me.

I was just playing into the common stereotype. I will have a Huge vehicle in the form of a Winnebago for traveling and it will trailer my full race car behind it...lol.

I definitely appreciate the performance of the Muscle car though. Just not one for me.
