Yeah, I don't even have Geico (had State Farm since I started driving). Just an example of places asking for 5 years back. I need to find someone that works at the DMV or in LEO to ask now cuz it has me curious. I have no points but multiple tickets many years ago so curious if that all shows up still |

If you run a red light you deserve all that and more. Lane violations are when you leave a turn-only lane to go straight on a green light because you're impatient or don't know where you're going. If a cop sees you do that then expect a ticket. Low speeding ticket is the lowest possible speeding violation, which I believe is 15mph or less over the posted limit (?), can't remember it's been a while. All I remember is the price bracket raises the faster you are going over the limit. If you're doing 90+ on a 65mph freeway you'll either get the most expensive ticket (~$500) or you'll just go to jail if the cop isn't happy with you.

That said, I agree it sucks and I'd be pissed too, but I'd also understand it was my fault and not the Officer's. This one is so easy to avoid and so clear cut, its hardly worth the electrons we've wasted on it. Also, like it or not, this happens all the time, it is officer discretion. The only other option would be to take all discretion away and have it a hard and fast enforcement. You just happen to have been on the "wrong" side of this one, but still, your fault, not the Officer's. Speeding tickets are a good example. My very first speeding ticket (when I was 19) was for doing 68 in a 55 mile an hour zone. It should have been for doing 100 in a 55 but the officer cut me a break because I had a clean record, it was the middle of the night on I-95 in rural NC, and he and I were the only cars on the road for miles, and he didn't want to take me in for careless and reckless (I was going fast enough he would have had to book me) 10 years later I got a ticket for doing 36 in a 30MPH zone. I was doing 36 on my motorcycle. Officer did not discuss, and gave me no option to reduce. In both cases, I thanked the Officer, paid the fine and moved on.

I understand your point but I think your attitude towards the officer is bullshit.

I've been there, my insurance was ridiculous in my early 20's because of my teen driving years. lol. I have Geico, they seem to be the best big name company for CA. I have one point for speeding right now, but they don't surcharge you or take away your good driver discount for 1 point. Definitely worth a look if you want to avoid paying a higher premium. Mine is <100/month. |

Yeah, it really just depends on your own experience. I prefer to do everything myself so I just go directly through the company. I've only had one claim with them in the 5 years I've had them and it was really painless. There's always someone who has a bad experience though. |
