BZZZZZZ wrong. Both were as American as apple pie and Mustangs. They were built from the ground up in the US on a GM platform. I spent a week at the plant in 2007.
I believe the Opels were built in Germany on the GM designed platform and were actually just a rebadged Sky or Solstice don't remember which.

I think that was the idea. Except for stuff made in Canada. Apparently we will get "special" treatment in any such process.

The only 20% import tax I am aware of are imports from Mexico. Japan is not going to get a 20% tariff, nor are imports from other countries.

The 20% Mexican tariff is to fund the building of Trump's wall. I didn't read that article, but I clicked, read the first paragraph and realized it's only click bait.

The two guys that I knew with them had no real issues. It was more Mercedes than Chrysler anyway. Another case of a car that the internet loved to rip apart without ever actually owning or driving one.

Not sure if we had the gxp or redlines here. If we did I have never seen one and they don't show up in Autotrader. A nice clean SRT6 can be had for around $20K though.
I'm only Japanese biased because they make the cars I want. You should have seen the spreadsheet I created before I bought my Yaris. I literally went to fueleconomy.gov and started with every car available. Only the Yaris was the best two door car that had the best gas mileage.

If GM made a fiero now, or heck if Toyota made an MR2, I very well would have ended up in that instead of the BRZ. The new offerings from GM are pretty good quality wise, and I'm a huge ford fan, so many of their good to great cars go totally unnoticed because they don't advertise them. Had a friend with a Mercury mystique and man could that thing handle. I owned a 94 Taurus SHO that was awesome. I would be interested in the Focus RS if it wasn't part time front wheel drive biased awd. Had a friend with a Fiero, and the front seat of that was bigger than the twins. The Mustang ecoboost is a great car, but gas mileage is horrific. Enough ranting, lol, where's my rising sun flag gone too?

Ah. I didn't realize we were talking about the mexico one specifically. I was reading another proposal recently about an overhaul on corporate tax code that would effect everything like I was saying. Or maybe Im totally mixing shit up and have no idea what I'm saying. So many links lately my brain is on overload.

But yeah, the 20% thing is cars from Mexico only. Guess I should have read the link lol

Days before a group of Republican lawmakers were due to discuss their party's controversial proposal to tax all imports, Toyota Motor Corp (7203.T) sent an urgent message to its U.S. dealers - tell the politicians the tax would seriously hurt car buyers.

We reading the same article? lol

that was one proposal that literally came from nowhere, and the 20% is higher than was ever quoted before, far too high do what was intended.

Something will be done, we have no idea what it might be yet. It is really really early.

I know you've been somewhat corrected already (in typical Tcoat fashion), but the Opel you're thinking about is the Opel GT. Badge engineered in the other direction.

I've seen a handful of the gxp and redlines up here. I always thought they were super cool cars, and I'm kind of kicking myself for not looking into any of them when I was car shopping.

bzzzz you're wrong lol.

I worked for GM in 2000 when Opel debuted the platform and they were talking about building the American versions off of it.
