Close, except opposite for me. Left left for #1 and left right for #2.

I had this situation with my gf and we didn't get in argument or anything, but we had different words we used... so just wondering how you guys will be explaining it.
Near or rightmost turn lane. Middle lane works too imo

I'd say the middle lane.

For that pic, that might work... but what if there are like 5 lanes?

1 2 3 4 5 That's why numbers are easier.

Numbered from left to right or right to left? Still ambiguous unless you agreed ahead of time.

Why would you number it backwards?

Left to right, just as one would envision. My wife and I use the term lanes 1 2 3 4 5 all the time.

I guess we aren't normal, but that's ok

See that is just it. Some people would do it the other way and "say why do it left to right?". To me lane one starts on the outside and works it's way across. We would be stuck in the wrong lane if we used numbers with each other. As long as both agree ahead all is good but if you said 1 was left and she went to the right thinking the other way you would pay! And of course you know you would have to change which way you thought it was.

We've been trained since Kindergarten to write left to right and read left to right.

It's automatic, unless you don't know what the person is talking about when you say "Lane 1 or 2" If that is the case, yes, you should talk about it before hand.

It was an interesting topic that I no longer have any interest in...

I think it is because I look at them as:
Right=Slow so 1
Middle= faster so 2
and so on.
