That's too expensive. I just let the rocks and debri on the freeway get rid of the swirl marks

Nope. Thats me on average. Sometimes it gets 1 wash, sometimes 3. I paid for unlimited washes at a local drive through wash for the last 3 months and used it 2-3 days a week but just cancelled since I got 200tw tires and dont drive it to work anymore really.

Too $$$ So I just wax myself and use the turtle wax spray to hide most swirls. My car is clean 99% time, so people spend more time looking and admiring on how clean it is over the swirls. Only 2 people have noticed out of like 100.

I thought you rich folk down in CA, took your cars in to have them detailed about once a month ...... the rest of the time you just used a CA duster .....

Not true honestly. Ill just leave this video here so you can see the love from the dealer in their prep, he washes the interior of the car with a wash mitt, uses laquer thinner for no reason and proceed's to rotary buff wax on car. It's just mind blowing how lost he is on proper car care. Automotive clear coat is as thin as a post it note and highly scratch sensitive. There are some decent detail dealer based shops out there I am sure, but most have no clue and rush through as they get payed per car. They just simply are not educated enough on proper detailing. Think about it, if they just scrubbed dirt off of some truck they took in for trade, they will turn around and wash your car with the same wash media. The result is dull faded and swirled up paint, those rotary buffers in unskilled hands can cause holograms, swirl marks and generally make the paint look like shit and eat through your clear coat in a heartbeat. I get most people are not that obsessed with this type of thing they just drive the car, but a lot of us like to keep our cars looking as nice and swirl free as possible.

You are presuming that all dealers do that and all dealers are unskilled. That is not a realistic and there are likely more dealer detailers that care about the job they do then don't. I fully understand that some people care more than others but the slamming of any and all dealer detailers is unwarranted.

Except I used to work in the automotive industry I have seen the hacks first hand. Now your correct some of those guys are decent, I even stated that in my initial post to you. However based on my experience, as a whole I think your dealing with very inexperienced guys who make 10 an hour and have very little idea about proper detailing. I have been detailing for many years so I am very familiar with proper techniques to preserve your clear coat, washing drying, polishing, coating etc.

Half the guys that do it themselves are probably not much better. No you are not going to get a $1200 detail job for free from a dealer but that does not mean they are destroying your paint with one pre delivery wash either. Not saying take it to them weekly just a one off is not hurting anything.
Professional detailers take things to extremes. That is why there are professional detailers.
