Many people like to throw out some base maps and have someone remotely tune it for them. My experience is that to maximize your investment, you'd want full stand alone.

what's interesting is that according to the japanese text tuning the ecu is required to get the max potential from the kit, but you can get good gains even without a tune. i'm highly skeptical of that statement considering back in the days people would have to retune their full standalone ecu just for weather changes when running itbs on a 4age.

also interesting to note is that they are considering making this available as a dealer installed option in japan.

..and i thought that the regs over there were more stringent than here, guess i was wrong.

I'm not really surprised with dealer install option in Japan. Because some dealership in Japan do local shop partnerships. Of course, these dealership install is ONLY cover under that dealership, so don't expect you can bring it any dealership.

cyde01: given that IIRC there was JDM street-legal certified combo of Apexi(?) catless header & w. single HF cat in frontpipe, Japan doesn't look to me very strict on intake/exhaust/smog rules.

Disclaimer: I don't know what I'm talking about here. All I have is a bunch of impressions with regards to itb.

1/ I thought itb were supposed to have access to a large-ish plenum which mimics being open to atmosphere. That is, the itb don't realise they are being fed from a plenum.
2/ I thought itb were supposed to be straight. What I see here is a new manifold with significant bends which I think would negate some of the benefit of itb.

they're considering making it available from the dealer, so it's probably more of a conservative kit, if there is such a thing. the surge tank looks small, and the intake manifold looks like it's designed to be used with the stock airbox. so yeah that would negate the benefit significantly. open stacks with naca ducts on the hood feeding them directly would be pretty awesome.

I dont know off hand how to calculate, but yes it has to be of decent size plenum for the itbs to not know the difference between it and open free air. Secodnly yes straighter is better, for anything with water or airflow, but compromises can be made.

I agree the plenum doesnt look big enough to not affect the itbs negatively, but maybe they did their homework and it really works. wont know till they release test info or if someone does third party testing. I for one am very interested in this kit, although id likely build a different type of plenum/ filter setup unless theirs proves sufficient gains.
