Aftermarket headers - vibration?
Just a question for all the people with aftermarket headers WITHOUT a flex joints. Do you noticed increased vibration from the exhaust to your car?
I would love to order with flex joints - only JDL did that but sadly they abandon the design and now everything is solid ![]() And I red somewhere here that you get more vibrations but I cannot find it anymore. Thanks |

I didn't notice it. Probably notice more from the sound/power than the vibration.

the problem with your question is that no one you're asking has the proper equipment to test for vibration, other than their own butts.

If aftermarket headers were causing enough vibration to be noticeable, you could try softer motor mounts, but that would have its negative impacts as well.

Flex-joints in aftermarket headers were there to compensate thermal expansion, not to add movement for some vibration dampening. And in some header models they were later on removed, or weren't designed in at all, when manufacturers found out that absence of them didn't increase noticeably cracking of welds.
Extra noises/exhaust loudness may come from cat removal or from thinner thickness tubes used in header, not from vibrations (unless header rubs somewhere on frame, and then vibrates together with engine it's hard mounted on. But flexjoints won't fix that). |

If its vibrating is may be the header or overpipe hittingvonbskid plate , chassis or front stabiliser bar or mount

If one is asking about in-cabin vibration, the average user can't differentiate between lack of flex joints vs. increased sound transmitted as vibration through the cabin. Also, even if there were more vibration, the rest of the exhaust is on hangers. Many parts of this can't be answered without knowing what else is on the car. I'm not one to normally give a vague answer, but the question needs to be narrowed down to give a better response. Just saying "no" isn't a complete answer, especially if OP is asking it in the context of vehicle longevity. -alex |

Now I am confused.
My question was about in cabin vibration - i.e. comfort. In other words - is there a difference in comfort caused by vibration if I have a header with flex joints vs. solid design? The longevity is an issue for me too. My mind tells me that there is a reason why OEMs do this, even @JDLAutoDesign said when they had flex designs that they don't recommend solid headers on street cars. But now, including JDL, everybody is "flex joints is for nothing", and won't cause decreased comfort or longevity issues. |

I get Mavs point but you are asking if it is noticeable to try and get a consensus to see if you might have a problem. I would say I do not notice any more and you should check clearances for the subframe, skid plate, etc

Ahhh. Ok. Yeah, if people got serious vibration enough to notice just from feel it would be all over the forum. In terms of smaller vibratioms/longevtiy/etc who knows. Not many people have enough mileage to get a good amount of data even
