Not true. The only people that say the AT in these cars suck are the people that haven't taken the time to research the at's in these cars.Everyone needs to read this thread. It is all about how they developed the A/T in these cars and exactly what it is.

The point is that the people who sneer at the AT drivers and their superior "involvement" with the MT have never driven the thing, never mind reading about it. Sapphireho, for example.

I only commented on this thread replying to the silly comments that a MT is unsafe, and the comment that high end cars only come with paddles because that's all people want. I never once bad mouthed autos. Buy what you want, no one cares, but don't make stupid comments about one or the other.

I've driven the AT twin, along with many other cars with paddles.

Not silly. Just the facts. Look it up. In the past few years most Ferrari, McLaren, Koenig, Bugatti buyers want the DCT. That's the demographic. Putting a manual in these cars is akin to putting drum bakes on them. Again .... the economics of offering two different trannys does not make financial sense to the car maker.

Now Porsche. The GT3 needed the DCT to compete. Bottom line.

Now that Ferrari only makes cars with DCT ... there is a demand for the 6sp manuals in the 430. Porsche brought back the manual because ........ wait for it ...... PROFIT.

Audi R8/Huracan. No manual. Just DCT.

Back to OP: get the manual just to experience some driver involvement.

Sorry to

And profit comes from, wait for it...demand.

I was only commenting what I heard car guys saying that buy high end ferarris and Porsches, not rap stars.

Again, no one gives a rats ass which car you buy and drive. no one.

Yes, because driving them doesn't count. No one is saying the auto is crap (triggered!) people are just saying why one is preferred over the other.

The original question was:

1. Subjective. But judging by the sales, you'd argue for the MT.
2. Probably not for a daily drive. I have driven AT on the road, but not on track so can't tell you for sure.
3. Yes, definitely. You can easily drive AT with MT experience but not the other way around!

@whataboutbob got fourth place overall in the Super Street 86 Showdown. His car is an A/T, and though beefed up internally, naturally aspirated to boot.

The rest of the competition were mostly FI, and all of them were M/Ts.

Just food for thought.

Without reading the rest of the thread, buy what will suit you the best OP. You are not going to get one definitive answer since everything is subjective. I will not comment on whether or not an A/T is better or worse in terms of driving experience, since I've never driven one, but even though I love my manual, you're not going to suffer in driver skill if you picked the A/T.

But hey, you keep going on with your opinion there, it's all good. We could go out on a drive through some back roads together and I bet I'd be able to have just as much fun as you do, even with my "adequate" transmission.

That's just the point.... it is just a traditional automatic. It will always feel like a traditional automatic with paddle shifters.

I put enough miles on the AT. It is better than some normal commuter cars but it isn't anything special. You still get a delay during kick down and upshifting and certain computer parameters that limit certain actions. While most actions you wouldn't be doing in a manual anyways it is just not the same. At the end of the day, it is a refined automatic. At least it isn't a CVT!

Enjoyment on a backroad is subjective to the driver, not the transmission....so yeah I'd bet you would have fun. Lets go drive.

There you have it. Everyone is happy. like another poster said. Just buy the car you want. Doesn't really matter what anyone else thinks.

It does seem like a punchers fight, so 4oz seems appropriate.
