The car does not lock if I just back out of the driveway and say, drive to work, this has to do with me exiting the car.

Maybe next thing to try is back up, turn the car off, restart and get out. See if it re-sets something by shutting it off and re-starting?

Or I can shut it off and leave it off with the key in the ignition to see what happens?

Or I can ignore the whole thing and not leave the key in the ignition ever.

I will see about a new battery for the key fob. Is it a common battery or is it a Scion specific cell?
When you initially start it, do you close the door?

I tried last night. Car never locked no matter what combination of actions I did. The only result is that my neighbors are more convinced than ever that I have serious mental issues.

FYI that feature is defaulted to around 1 minute on our cars I believe. In carista and Tech-stream it's maximum set time is 5 minutes or completely off if I remember correctly. It's sort of a useful feature for us without smart key access, but also gets annoying if your loading and unloading things quickly from the car.

If you open either of the doors it disables the timer for locking the car back up. If you're going for the trunk, you can open that with its button on the key (at least in the case of the FR-S since there's no external trunk release) and that doesn't affect the doors. What situation are you finding yourself loading/unloading and having the car lock on you?

^ This

I can only see it being an issue if you decide to unlock the doors from inside the house, leave the keys, then take more than a minute or so to get to your car lol.

Carista shows options for relocking the doors in various conditions. Don't remember the specifics, though.

Same thing just happened to me. I always keep extra keys nearby. I also can use Drone Mobile which can unlock my car.

I moved on. Treat car as if it is going to lock me out if I leave it running when I am not inside and act accordingly. Just another quirk.

There isn't a button switch whatever to open the trunk on the outside of the car. You have to use the button on the dash or the fob

You can open it with the key next to the license plate. Little known secret because it's so well hidden as demonstrated by me in the "First 86 Stupid Things You've Done with your 86" thread.

Well, while someone already answered, I don't see what's unclear about my statement when you don't take it out of context by quoting a fraction of the whole sentence.

The FR-S, unlike the BRZ, has no external trunk release, so you have to either use the dash button, use the fob button, or use the key in the keyhole on the trunk lid. I don't know if the BRZ external trunk release button is tied at all to the door locks and their timer, because I have an FR-S.

My point was, in response to someone saying it's inconvenient that the car locks on you when you're quickly loading and unloading it, that it shouldn't. As soon as you open a door the lock timer disables and the car will stay unlocked until you physically lock it in some way. Opening the trunk doesn't affect the door locks (again, at least in an FR-S) so I can't see how the car can lock itself back up on you once you've started opening it up. If that person gave me some examples of the situation they're taking about, perhaps I'd have to retract my statement.

Don't read any tone into this, there is none. Just felt like writing a bunch.

Yes the key will do it if you have the master key. I'm probably the only guy in the world that doesn't. Still no button/switch though

The BRZ behaves in the same manner (key and or button functionally work the same).
