Car Learned New Trick: Locks me out if I leave running!

OK, this is my 5th winter with the car, and it has never done this before.

When I go out to shovel the driveway, I run the car so that it warms up and defrost all the windows.

While the car is warming up, I do the bottom half of the lane-way, then move the car down to the cleared spot and do that part of the driveway.

Twice now, the car has has locked itself while idling. Both times it was only after I moved it to the bottom of the lane-way. It did not lock me out until I had moved the car 20 feet and for sure it idled in the first spot longer than the second.

As I said, this is new. Is there some magic sequence of key buttons that I have pocket dialed to create the situation?

You need to trade cars with Gskv!

Could be a dying battery in the keyfob, that can create inexplicable behavior.

Nothing.
Maybe I should stop playing with my fob buttons while Nohome is shoveling his drive though.

I know that some vehicles can change their locking profile if you hold the lock and unlock keys in some sequence. This can change how many doors unlock with one push of the button or how the car auto locks the doors. I'd check that.

Does seem strange. My car when running won't let me lock the car via the lock toggle switches on the doors. When I press them to lock and the driver's door is open, they immediately unlock again to prevent that exact situation.

So you're saying you're not touching any locks on the car, and after moving the car it locks itself?

Anyone here have a car that locks itself after you've done some driving? Mine doesn't, and I have to remember to lock the doors when I start driving. These days a lot of cars automatically lock the doors when you start driving. Anyone's FR-S/BRZ do that? Could be what's happening to NOHOME.

Roll down the driver side window. Or carry both keys.

JD001 01-14-2017 04:24 AM

My car only unlocks the drivers door if I approach from the drivers and when I get in I have to physically open the passenger door. Both doors lock as soon as I drive away. It then unlocks both when I have parked popped the car into neutral.

I still can't get both doors to unlock when I first approach the car... tried pressing the various buttons on the key fob in various sequences. Tried pushing buttons whilst rubbing my stomach and patting my head zero luck!
