It wasn't terrible in the Abarth, yes it's a turbo with lag, but it's got character. I genuinely enjoyed that car, except for the driving position which is what led me to trading it in.

For a C-Street class car, the Abarth 124 seems to have stiffer base antiroll bars and a taller 2nd gear. Both potentially slight advantages for Autocross.

You get it, lots of people see 170 ft-lbs out of the MultiAir, a couple posts about a piggyback box that cranks up the boost for ~$10/1hp+ft-lb, do the math on the power/weight and think it's Garrett's gift to mankind.

I maintain that the Abarth was the most fun I've had on public roads, but suspension and chassis design and ultimate capability put me in an 86. I know I'm one of the few genuinely impressed with the FA20, but regardless of my thoughts on that I'm sure a well setup Fiata is a hoot.

I have no qualms with the FA20 or the 86 platform. I love mine to death. Just wish I'd stop having problems with my bad apple. Fingers crossed they sort it for good this time.

^^^ That looks amazing. TBH, I'd prefer this in either form to an 86 or a Miata but the 86 wins the practicality contest every time. It looks decent and has the capability to actually make decent power with nothing but a tune. Neither of those are qualities that the Miata shares.

The coupe is a render. The only actual coupes are the fiat rally concept cars with a roof that looks like a removable hardtop.

Last I heard, there were rumors of a production 124 coupe. I doubt it would have rear seats though. For me, rear seats are a must which eliminates most lightweight rwd cars for me.

Actually the Miata's engine takes very very well to simple modifications. Aftermarket gains have been up to 40 hp & 40 lb-ft of torque with just full exhaust and a tune. That gives the Miata roughly the same horsepower, and more torque, than a stock BRZ. In a car 400 lb lighter.

I don't know much about the Fiat engine, but it is turbocharged, so 20-40 hp is probably easy to get?

I really wanted to like the 124. Sadly in the flesh it looks crap however the coupe render looks decent but highly unlikely to be produced in the form shown....

The Fiat will make 200 wheel with nothing but a tune, just like the 500 Abarth that it shares an engine with. This is telling me it is close to 250 crank, with minimal effort, which is where those cars get to being really fun but not overpowered to the point where they're front heavy and they just break the tires loose all the time like the V8 ones.

@JD001 yeah they look a bit tacky, especially the stick-on rear over the trunk.
